Motherwell Girls 13s sign-up for Norway Cup

Written by  Alice Pearson
The Norway cup is the world's biggest international youth football tournament, and has more than 1,600 teams taking part. These teams travel from around the world to compete in Norway’s capital, Oslo.

Motherwell 13s girls have taken this fantastic opportunity and are going to be travelling and competing next year in the tournaments 43rd year.
Pamela Liddell from Motherwell spoke to YFS about the exciting prospect of participating in the tournament. She said, “the experience of playing against different teams and nations, is one of those once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for a lot of young girls.”
Motherwell also talked to YFS about their expectations of the event. “I was only recently made aware of the YFS programme and after looking into it in more depth, I came across the chance to go to Norway" said Pamela. "I thought it was a fabulous opportunity, not only for the girls but for our club to widen our experience in playing elsewhere.”
It wasn’t only the organisation of the tournament that attracted Motherwell to take part, with Pamela saying, “I believe that the girls at Motherwell Girls Performance Centre 13s can show teams across the world what the grassroots at Motherwell are all about and why we have some of the top players at all age groups within our set ups".
The Norway cup is the biggest and one of the most prestigious youth football tournaments and its matches are broadcast on one of the largest live sports stations in Norwegian television. Pamela also talked about how the girls were anticipating this, saying “the girls are really excited as it’s not every day that girls at the age of 13s get filmed playing football on live TV.” She joked, “No doubt they will make sure their hair and make-up is all done properly.”
Participating teams also have a number of facilities open to them, including free public transport, as well as free access to a number of local attractions. Their friends and families also have the opportunity to join the team at the same rate. “From what I have heard it appears amazing” shared Pamela. “Especially what’s on offer for the girls and giving the parents the opportunity to go along and support their kids.”
