East End Thistle hosted Wishaw Wycombe in the League. It was a tale of two halves as the home side looked to have all three points in the bag at half time, but a rejuvenated Wycombe had other ideas as the second half kicked off.

Thistle got off to a flyer with an early goal from a corner kick. Jaymi Patterson whipped the ball into the box and Nicholas McGaughinn got on the end of the loose ball to give the home side the lead.

Wycombe looked for a quick response, Lee Hadden hit the bye line and played a low driven ball across goal but there were no takers.

Thistle grabbed a second after a quickly worked throw in. Ethan Copeland flicked it into Liam Doherty’s path, who tucked the ball into the near corner.

Wycombe had there best chance of the game, Bruce played Browning through on goal, but his shot clipped the top of the bar.

Browning had a great chance to pull one back for the visitors but he lost his composure, he only had the keeper to beat, but he blazed the ball high and wide of the target.

East End grabbed their third of the day, a terrific solo effort from Ross Smith as he coasted by the Wycombe players before passing it into the far corner.

Another Wishaw chance was wasted when Jordan Carey got himself into a forward position but his shot was wide of the far post.

The first chance of the second half fell to the feet of Cameron Browning, but he was muscled off the ball before he could get the shot away.

Moments later Wycombe got themselves back into the game through a corner kick. Gary Torrance floated the ball into the penalty area and the head of Chris Bruce was there to meet it as he powered the ball into the back of the net.

The afternoon continued to be frustrating for Cameron Browning, he managed to get the shot away but he was denied by the woodwork.

The Wishaw half-time team talk was proving to be effective as they came close to grabbing a second goal. Another great ball into the box by Torrance, this time his cross landing on the head of Mark Kyle, but the header was wide of the target.

A few minutes later, Lee Hadden lifted the spirits of Wycombe by sliding the ball under the keeper, making it 3-2.

Hadden again showing his lightning-quick pace down the right channel, he played the ball in to his strike partner Browning but his shot was helped wide by the hand of the keeper.

Wycombe pulled it back to level-pegging as Chris Bruce towered above the rest to header home his second of the day. Wishaw with all the momentum, looked fired up to go on and win the game.

Wycombe were in firm control for the remainder of the match, Hadden’s shot was saved but Browning was there to put Wishaw in front for the first time in the game with the simplest of tap ins.

Cammy Browning’s goals were like buses. He waited over an hour for one, and two came along within quick succession. Colm Lafferty cut the ball back for him to tap into the net.

Wycombe rounded off a dominant second half in style by adding goal number  6 and 7. Lafferty’s shot was spilled to Gary Torrance’s feet who passed it into the open net. This was soon followed by a hat-trick of tap ins for Cammy Browning. Hadden’s shot was saved, but Browning was there to put it in.

Wycombe will be pleased they were able to turn the game around in the second half, in such a convincing fashion. East End Thistle will be wondering what went wrong in the second half, after such a dominant display in the first half.

Wishaw Wycombe
Ross Smith. He seemed to be Thistle’s best attacking outlet. He was impressive going forward and demonstrated his pace, dribbling and agility with his goal.
Lee Hadden. He was at the heart of the majority of the Wycombe comeback. He beat his man nearly every time he was in the opposition half. He will also be delighted to have chipped in with a goal.
