West Park United took on Rossvale Rovers in a local derby at Bishopbriggs Academy in the Under 17's B League.

The early stages of the match saw the teams evenly poised with Rovers' Lewis Stewart coming closest as his free kick from 30 yards was saved. West Park were next to come close when Thomas Seaver dragged a one-on-one opportunity just wide of the goalkeeper's far post. However, the ball was played back into Seaver straight after by captain Lewis McKay and Seaver pounced on the opportunity from the edge of the six yard box to put West Park 1-0 up.

West Park continued to look strong after the opener and on the 23rd minute they would double their lead. A free kick in from Lewis McKay was met by Zak Cameron who hit the post, but the ball fell straight to Calum Smith who fired the rebound high into the net. It appeared that the floodgates were now open as it only took United two minutes before they scored again, with Jamie McKendry slotting home from close range after the ball was played in from a corner.

Things could have looked a lot worse at half time for Rovers however goalkeeper Aidan Mulholland put in a few important saves to ensure that the team went in at half time still with a three goal deficit.

With a big deficit to overcome, Rovers brought on two substitutes at half time to freshen things up. However, almost immediately their game plan was out the window in the second half. A shot from Zak Cameron which was blocked gave West Park a corner, and a precision ball into the box from captain McKay gave Darren Farmer the opportunity to head in an easy finish from 10 yards, extending United's lead to 4-0.

Farmer came close again for United as he volleyed wide from the edge of the box not long after his goal, whilst substitute Ben Tanner also came close to making it five after a good run from midfield before his shot was saved by Mulholland. However, Tanner was to be successful not long after with arguably West Park's best goal of the day. He worked a 1-2 with Thomas Seaver who placed the ball back to Tanner on the edge of the box who slotted the ball into the bottom left corner of the goal, extending West Park's lead to 5-0 and leaving them completely out of sight with 20 minutes to go.

With a lack of attacking threat for most of the game, Rovers' substitute Reece Middleton came close with 10 minutes to go shooting wide from the edge of the box. Alas Rossvale finally broke through with a consolation goal on the 85th minute after a fantastic solo run from Ben Hamilton who fired high into the next from the edge of the box to restore a little bit of pride.

This pride wasn't to last long as West Park restored their five goal advantage just two minutes later when a good ball in from substitute Allan Winchcole was headed in by Ben Tanner who got his second of the afternoon as the match drew to a close. The result saw an emphatic 6-1 victory for West Park United over their local rivals Rossvale Rovers, after a fantastic performance with constant attacking play reaped its rewards.

Lewis McKay - The captain was pivotal in many of West Park's attacking build-ups during the match. Despite not getting a goal himself he provided the assist for the opener as well as swinging in a fantastic corner which Darren Fermer finished off at the start of the 2nd half.
Reece Middleton - Despite only playing in the second half, Middleton showed a hunger going forward which often lacked for Rossvale in the final third. Perhaps if he had played from the start and gotten Rovers into the game earlier on the match would have played out differently
Magic Moment

Ben Tanner's first goal and West Park's 5th was a fantastically worked move. Tanner played a lovely 1-2 with Thomas Seaver to clear the defence before firing in passed the goalkeeper from the edge of the box.
With not much to smile about for Rossvale Rovers, their goal was one to cherish for Ben Hamilton who did well to weave past the defence and fire the ball high into the net, ridding West Park of a possible clean sheet late on
