A still, drizzly, overcast morning at Alva Academy was the venue for this FVFDA League Cup Quarter Final.
Alva pressed from the first whistle and were moving the ball nicely from defence through midfield.  Play seemed to focus on Alva's right side and as a result Finlay Mackenzie found himself busy with several early piercing runs on the right flank.
Soon Alva found their composure and it wasn't long before Logan MacFarlane was finding passes through Jack Morrison and Craig Brown to the front line.  This continued for a ten minutes resulting in a composed spell of possession.  Soon Alva's midfield started to mix things up a little with through balls to the channels finding Corey Keenan and Fin giving Stenhousemuir something else they needed to think about.
After twenty minutes Alva's patience and composure paid off when Nathan gathered in defence to distribute to Jack in midfield.  Jack placed an inch perfect pass into the right channel for Fin to latch onto and finish ruthlessly leaving the Stenhousemuir keeper with no chance to put Alva into the lead.
This pattern of play continued for the remainder of the first half as Alva continued to be patient and keep possession with some excellent passing football.
Half Time: Alva 1-0 Stenhousemuir
Alva started the second half as they finished the first and continued to pass well in all areas of the pitch.
Soon after kick-off a move from the right started with Fin finding Jack Donald in the right channel.  Jack  played and inviting ball along the eighteen yard line for Logan to latch onto and finish too increase Alva's lead to 2-0.
Alva retained their focus and composure to dominate possession moving the ball really well from goal through defence and midfield to the frontline and channels.  With twenty minutes gone in the second half Alva earned a corner.  Fin floated an inviting cross into the six yard area to find JackM the first to respond and execute to make the score 3-0 for Alva.
Alva continued to press with midfield balls into Corey and Fin causing persistent problems for Stenhousemuir.  With ten minutes to go Alva were once again threatening the Stenhousemuir six yard area when a cross ball failed to be cleared and found JackM waiting to pounce again to increase Alva's score to 4-0.
Alva continued to dominate possession and with two minutes left earned a free kick thirty yards out from Stenhousemuir's goal.  After a brief discussion over the ball it was clear Alva had plans.  The referee blew his whistle and both Corey and Jack followed with dummy runs over the ball for Logan to follow up with a piercing pass to Jack Donald who had dropped off his man.  Jack in turn managed to find Corey's run with a depth pass behind the Stennhousemuir wall for Corey too fire the ball into the danger area for David Ross to finish, an excellently worked free kick.  Unfortunately the referee saw it differently and called off-side.
An excellent game played in good spirits by both teams.  In the end Alva?s composure, passing and movement was the difference.  Alva Swifts 4-0 Stenhousemuir FC Community.
