In the top of the group clash in Group B Motherwell locked horns with Inverness Caledonian Thistle. The winner would be set to face Albion BC in the semi finals and the loser had a tie against Dundee in store, with the draw falling in favour of Motherwell due to their superior goal difference.
The Steelmen got into the groove right from the off and a ball by Dom Thomas found Steven Higgins but his shot flew over the bar.
Motherwell then took the lead with their first shot on target when Thomas knocked it into Nick Caddens who fed Higgins in the penalty area who passed it across goal to Dylan Mackin who opened the scoring.
Higgins was then going to try his luck in front of goal when he recieved the ball from Robbie Wetherspoon but it was saved by Ross Aitken.
ICT had the first chance of the second half when a Felipe Da Silva corner found Blair McLennan, whose volley flew over the bar.
Caley then had to rely on Jason Brown at the other end to stop Daniel McDonald from scoring. As the ball was edging over the line the captain raced back to complete a last gasp clearance.
But it was 2-0 moments later when Chris Caddens' pass found Higgins who calmly put it in for his first of the game and in the process put Motherwell into the comfort zone.
Well sealed the win when Salim Koulder Aissa was the provider for 'Higgy', who grabbed his second and Motherwell's third with a fine strike.
As a result Inverness now face Dundee in Thursday's 4pm kick off with Motherwell and Albion then meeting in what is sure to be a highly anticipated evening tie.
