The first league game of the new season saw Oakbank come to visit us. We started off sluggishly and while we have the majority of the posession and didn't give much to Oakbank, we found it difficult to get the ball in the net. The build up was good but we just seemed to miss out on the final product. The break through came from Logan Gilmartin however with a well taken goal & following it up shortly after jumping on a rebound to push home for our second. Next to get on the score sheet was Sam Robertson. After a few attempts he managed to force a shot through and into the net for 3-0. This was followed up again by Logan Gilmartin for this hat-trick and then Jordan for his first. The first half ended well with us leading 5-0. While we made it difficult for ourselves, we did not give Oakbank a shot on target or much possesion. When we did settle down & make the passes we created opportunities for ourselves and scored 5 good goals. Half Time: Abernethy YFC 5-0 Oakbank Into the second half and full credit to Oakbank they took the game to us. While we denied them a shot on target we did seemed happy to let them dictate the pace of the game.
Early on we conceded a penalty. The referee saw a push on the Oakbank number 9 which led to him falling and pointed to the spot. The penalty was well take and sent Andrew the wrong way. This was the only shot on target Oakbank had as the defence and Andrew Robertson dealt well with everything coming their way and Andrew's timing in rushing the ball was spot on.
This did seem to wake us up a bit more and we started to push forward. Jack Hutchison was brought down and Jordan Annadale stepped up to take the free kick. He curled the ball into the top corner of the net for from about 25 yards out for the goal on the game.
All 5 subs were used with the last goal coming from Tyler Lyon after he came on. He timed his run perfectly onto a through ball from Elliot Moir to hit home into the net for 7-1.
While we did make it difficult for ourselves in places it was overall a good performance from everyone.
Full Time: Abernethy YFC 7-1 Oakbank
