Fairmuir overcame a strong Dundee Villa side to clinch the Queen’s Jubilee Cup.
The opening 10 minutes were keenly contested with nothing to choose between the teams. However, Fairmuir’s clinical touch was to prove the difference between the two sides. In the 10th minute Han Agacan neatly placed the ball to the right of the Villa goalkeeper after a great ball over the top.
Agacan then turned provider as Fairmuir extended their lead. Agacan cross from the right hand side was poked in at the front post by Aidan Benvie in the 27th minute.
Villa came close to pulling a goal back after Daniel Thomson headed just over from a Blair Fleming corner. The first half was evenly matched however Villa failed to create any clear cut chances whilst Fairmuir’s two chances were converted into goals.
Half Time: Dundee Villa 0-2 Fairmuir BC
Villa’s substitution at half time with Ryan Carr coming on gave them a lot more balance and attacking drive down the left hand side. Carr’s drive and determination seemed to inspire the Villa team as they looked to find a way back into the tie.
Nevertheless, Fairmuir’s defence stayed resolute and continued to create their own chances. Agacan’s thunderous strike was superbly tipped onto the bar by the Villa keeper Caelan Flynn.
Scott Brannan’s performance in the centre midfield for Fairmuir was worth noting. Brannan’s simple passing as well as his aerial presence allowed him to control the game and keep the pressure on the Villa back four.
Both teams determination and will to win was evident throughout with hard challenges and effort shown all over the pitch. Fairmuir managed to stay calm and secured a 2-0 victory to clinch the Queen’s Jubilee Cup.

U15 Girls SSFA Shield - Semi Final

The Under 15 girls Mintlaw Academy of Aberdeenshire met Woodmill High School of Fife in the final four of the Scottish Schools FA Shield. The midway venue of Forfar Athletic's new artificial pitch at Station Park was selected as the venue, on a windy Angus afternoon.
Woodmill had been impressive in the competition so far, taking care of fellow East Region sides Montrose Academy and Monifieth HS with little problem in the early rounds. They then saw off last year's winners Nicolson Institute of Stornoway, before a quarter final victory over Cashback 7s national champions St Ninian's HS of Giffnock. Each game saw the Dunfermline school score at least five.
Up against the Fifers were a school renowned for girls' football, Mintlaw Academy. Having produced the like of Kim Little in the last decade, the current crop of Under 15 players have been enjoying a fine season, having wrapped up the Aberdeenshire League and League Cup, with two further trophies still to play for aside from the Scottish Shield. Mintlaw had beaten Banff Academy, Meldrum Academy, Turnbull High Schol and James Young High School on the road to the semi finals, with a similarly impressive scoring run to Woodmill, having found the net thirty-two times.
The match started cautiously but the deadlock was broken ten minutes before the interval. Woodmill captain Shannon MacNamara sent in a cross, which fell to the feet of Hannah Coyler, who applied the finish to give her side the lead at the break.
Half Time: Mintlaw Academy 1-1 Woodmill High School
Woodmill had a slender lead at the break, however Mintlaw started the second half brightly. A deadly counter attack saw the Mintlaw forward round the goalkeeper and place the ball into the unguarded net to make the score 1-1.
It wasn't long before Woodmill regained their lead, although it was thanks to a large chunk of fortune. With no apparent danger, a Woodmill ball forward took and massive deflection off a Mintlaw defender, wrongfooting the goalkeeper and nestling into the back of the net.
With a single goal's advantage there was always the prospect of a Mintlaw comeback, but Woodmill made the game safe thanks to goal number three. Megen Reilly picked up the ball on the edge of the box, danced past a couple of players, and slotted the ball home to the delight of the Fife contingent.
The final whistle blew and just a couple of weeks after the heartbreak of the Under 15 boys, who lost their national semi final in dramatic circumstances, Woodmill were celebrating their first ever Scottish Shield finalist. They won't have long to wait for their cup final opposition, with Lasswade High School playing Bishopbriggs Academy, tomorrow at Spartans Academy.
For Mintlaw the Scottish Shield dream is over, but they still have plenty to play for in a potentially quadruple winning season.

Dundee West clinched the Ross Ballantine Memorial Cup with an excellent display against the hard working Arbroath Lads Club.
Dundee West immediately put Arbroath on the back foot with a spell of early pressure. Dundee took the lead with an excellent poacher’s header from Robbie Fleming in the six-yard box after an excellent corner Jaden Murphy in the sixth minute.
Arbroath looked a threat down the right hand side with Jamie Ramage peeling off from his centre forward position into the space on the wing. Adam McIntosh nearly profited from a Ramage cross who fired over from the edge of the box.
Arran Lyall, Arbroath’s goalkeeper made a series of magnificent saves throughout the match but his save from Robert Gibson after diving in the wrong direction, his outstretched arm tipped the ball around the post was his most impressive.
Derek Johnston controlled the midfield for Dundee with short, simple and quick passing which allowed him to dictate the play. It was Johnston’s excellent ball in between Arbroath’s centre back and left back which released Lee Vials to cross for Fleming to header back across the goalkeeper for his second in the 16th minute.
Lyall made another fantastic save to deny Fleming his hat trick. Lyall’s performance clearly inspired Arbroath as they managed to pull a goal back in the 28th minute. McIntosh’s floated corner was headed powerfully into the bottom left hand corner of the goal by Calum Black, who rose above the opposing defenders to bring his team back into the match.
With half time imminent Dundee made their dominance known with a stoppage time goal extending their lead to two goals again. Fleming grabbed his hat trick with a cleverly taken goal, calmly knocking the ball past the goalkeeper and slotting into an empty net after some intricate passing on the edge of the area.
Dundee continued their excellent form from the first half with Fleming this time turning provider for his striking partner, with an excellent chipped ball over the two opposing centre backs to release Vials, who calmly passed the ball past the keeper and give Dundee a firm grip upon the tie.
Fleming later had a chance to grab his fourth but put his chance wide. Arbroath battled bravely throughout but were unable to create enough chances against a stubborn Dundee defence. Arbroath had a late goal correctly disallowed for offside after a threatening spell. Dundee remained resilient and deservedly claimed the Ross Ballantine Memorial Cup.
