Tranent Colts are champions of the SERYFA under 14 David Innes Cup after beating Musselburgh Windsor Colts in a game which saw no less than ten goals at New Dundas Park.
Goals were scored from both sides, with Tranent getting the better of their rivals, finishing 6-4 in Tranent’s favour. Stewart Johnston was the hero for Tranent as he nabbed three goals.
The game got off to a lively start with both sides scoring in under five minutes. Firstly, Windsor’s Liam Glen firing a shot past Tranent keeper King, helped by an Aaran Currie through ball.
Shortly after it was a low drive from Johnston, which found the bottom right corner, equalising for Tranent. Jack Landsborough’s run for Windsor on the left hand side allowed him to take his side back in front on 20 minutes. Johnston got his goal on the thirty third minute from a 20 yard strike.
Tranent’s next attack saw Lee Thomson scoring from inside the 6 yard box, thanks to a ball cut back from Macaulay Woodcock. Johnston got his hat trick on the 45th minute directing his effort into the bottom right corner. This made it 5-2 and all but over.
Credit to Windsor for continuing to fight, Glen volleying the ball into the roof of the Windsor net from inside the box to pull one back. With 15 minutes left, five turned to six when Michael Taylor’s effort from the left side nestled into the right corner of the goal.
Musselburgh got one more shortly before the final whistle, Currie dribbling around goalkeeper King and grabbed the last goal of the game.
