It was a perfect sunny morning and a great advert for the introduction of summer football as AC Oxgangs and Dunbar United Colts met with both teams making unbeaten starts to the season. It was the home team who took the lead within minutes of the kick off. A clearance from inside the Dunbar box bounced off the full back's knee back towards the goal and into the path of the Oxgangs forward. He kept calm and from a tight angle he rolled the ball into the net with the aid of the back post. The game was getting played at a good pace and midway through the half Oxgangs doubled their lead. A free kick 25 yards out was hit perfectly into the top right hand corner giving the goalie no chance. Just before half time Dunbar got back in the game. Ally Fell scurried down the left wing towards the bye line and his low cross was met at the front post by Struan Fenn who prodded the ball into the net from close range.
Half Time: AC Oxgangs 2-1 Dunbar United Colts
Dunbar must have got some strong words from their coaches at the break as they started the second half very much on the front foot.
The Oxgangs goalie made two cracking saves in as many minutes to deny the vistors. But the equalisor duly arrived when Straun Fenn made a strong run into the box before shooting the ball hard into the net for his second goal of the game.
But Oxgangs didn't let their heads go down and it was they who scored the next goal to go back into the lead. A long ball stretched the Dunbar defence and the Oxgangs forward scored with a fine shot from the edge of the box.
Back came Dunbar and it was Ryan Bird who made it three each when his shot from inside the box got a slight deflection which lofted the ball just over the Oxgangs goalie.
Both teams were now pressing for the winner and it was the East Lothian side that got it. A corner on the left by Ally Fell was headed back out to him by the Oxgangs defence but instead of crossing it back in, he cut inside the box before curling a fine shot into the far corner of the net.
The final ten minutes were frantic but Dunbar held out to collect the three league points on offer.
This was a very good game that swung from end to end. Both teams showed good fitness on what was a very hot and sunny pitch. Full Time: AC Oxgangs 3-4 Dunbar United Colts
