Craigmount HS Under 15s vs Leith Academy Under 15s
Edinburgh Schools FA

Craigmount HS vs Leith Academy - Under 15sAFTER watching Craigmount Seniors beat Trinity 7-1 in the sunshine at Gyle Park on Friday, September 23, I was back the following morning, on Saturday, September 24 and the sun was out again at this venue in west Edinburgh. Two games took place on Saturday morning and both featured Craigmount HS and Leith Academy. In the under-13 age group, the visiting side were on the wrong end of a 6-0 defeat, and from where I was standing in between the two pitches being used, Craigmount were much the better side on the day.

However, the game I really wanted to see was Craigmount under-15s v Leith Academy and it was a terrific game from start to finish. Once again, Craigmount looked a very good side at the start and they duly went in front at 1-0 with a super goal from the very good Elliot Sked. The equaliser, when it came, was from a stunning shot from well out, delivered by Aaron Currie and that made it all square at 1-1. Game on, as they say. And how! This terrific game flowed up and down the lovely big pitch and it just got better and better as time flew past. In the second half, Lewis Finlay put Craigmount back in front at 2-1 and the home side had a really good spell.

But the Leith Academy players lifted their game and it was no surprise at all when Aaron Currie scored his own and his side’s secong goal of the game to make it 2-2. At that stage, it was a fantastic game of football at this level, marked by excellent sportsmanship and good behaviour on both sides. What a super advert for schools football in fact!  With the score at 2-2 it was everything to play for and, gradually, the Leith players emerged the stronger and they went on to score a deserved winner from Bradley Muir to run out 3-2 winners. Somehow, I think schools football was the real winner in this game.
