Blackburn kicked off with a strong wind at their backs against a much fancied Cavalry Park Colts outfit.
Blackburn created the first opening chance of the match when some good work down the left with Ryan Gillies and Sean Dougan led to Dougan dinking a lively ball into the back post which the Calvary keeper knocked behind for a corner. From the resulting corner As the ball was cleared Stephen Pryde cracked a lovely shot from the edge of the 18 yard box, which the Calvary keeper done well to tip round the post.
Another long distance effort from Dougan led to another decent save and although the Calvary keeper spilled, Blackburn were unable to capitalise. Calvary were next to threat with a long range effort which only jut sailed over the bar.
Half time: Blackburn United 0-0 Cavalry Park Colts
Blackburn dominated the second half from start to finish. Dougan fired them in front, quickly followed with more missed opportunities including another four great chances as Cavalry Park pushed four up top looking go the equaliser! Blackburn should have been out of sight but nearly lost two points in the last two minutes. The Cavalry Park midfielder hit an absolute rocket from 30 yards which bounced off the underside of the bar and hit the line. The onrushing centre forward was ruled offside for the rebound.
A smashing game between 2 very good footballing sides. The referee also had an excellent game.

Blackburn United won the County Cup again this year, for the 2nd time. It was another cup win for them, but for one player, it made history.
James Mildren, 19 years of age, in the prime of his career, has taken part in the WLAYC County Cup (the top cup competition in West Lothian football) final 7 years in a row. Not with the same team, but moving on to different sides and enjoying his illustrious time as a juvenile footballer.
James has been at many sides. At under 13s and 14s James played with local team Fauldhouse 1992's, won the County Cup at 13's beating Whitburn 4-0, and then at 14s beating his current side Blackburn 3-1.
Playing right back in both games he was the defensive rock the team needed. The team was very successful reaching the semi-final of the Scottish Cup and winning 4 trophies.
Moving on in his career, he then went to Fauldhouse 93s and stayed at 14s, winning the County Cup by tipping Blackburn by 1 goal to nil, capping off 3 final wins in a week.
At 15s it was the first time the cup final was played at Almondvale in Livingston, beating Blackridge by 3 to 1, at 16s and 17s the streak finally ended as they were beaten by revenge seeking Blackridge and Blackburn.
Then the make or break year, James was out to seek his lost trophy, and he found it, beating Dunipace 3-1 in a thrilling encounter. This time playing at left-back, Mildren played a vital role in his team's victory.
When asked about his achievements James had this to say "I was dissapointed with the two defeats of course, but I'm just proud of myself to play at such a consistently high standard for all those years, the best feeling was in the changing room before this years final, the atmosphere was electric."
James told us he is excited about the up and coming season, and can't wait to win it again! It's great to see such an attitude and confidence. James is a commited individual who obviously only aspires to win, like every boy should, from the team at YFS we wish him good luck and bid him a long and successful career. |

In a re-run of the County Cup final Blackburn United took on Dunipace Juniors on Friday evening, at the home of Stoneyburn Juniors.
United went on the attack early but Findlay couldn't supply a finish inside the first few minutes.
Dunipace broke down the left and scored from their first attack with a good finish across the keeper.
United equalised from a corner when Clarkson nodded home. They then took the lead after Callum McDowell scored direct from the corner. It was nearly 3-1 but Dunipace managed to clear off the line to prevent themselves from falling further behind.
From the prospect of being two goals behind Juniors were given the chance to level the scores when they were awarded a penalty. A burst down the left saw Anderson upended and Pace scored from the spot.
Dunipace took the lead again Anderson scored an identical goal to the first and was causing United all sorts of problems.
However, the match took a twist in the closing stages of the half when Dunipace were reduced to ten men for a second bookable offence.

Dunipace remained stubborn in the second half and on a couple of occasions when Blackburn did create openings, the finishing didn't match the build up place.
Juniors looked dangerous on the break with some strong running from midfield. However a goal befitting any cup final was scored by Blackburn's Danny Campbell. An overhead kick which thundered into the keeper's top right put United on level terms.
Both teams created chances with United wasting great opportunities in the final third and Dunipace hitting the bar. The match was level at the end of the regulation 90 minutes so it progressed to extra time.

Extra time and the heat took its toll on the players and with Dunipace being a man down, it was a tall order for the Falkirk outfit.
McGowan on the Blackburn right grew stronger as the game went on and forced a corner which, after a scramble, Callum Polland lashed into the net.
Polland could have put the tie to bed with a couple of late chances but in the end Blackburn United held on to a clinch a cup double, following their County Cup success.
Dunipace will look to bounce back against Fauldhouse in the league on Sunday. If they can win their games in hand then just a point will be required against Blackburn to become league champions. From United's point of view, they are one win away from securing the treble.
