Motherwell Under 19s Vs Hamilton Academical Under 19s
Youth Cup 3rd Round

After a thrilling cup encounter, it was to be Hamilton who continue on their cup quest after a game which saw five goals and one red card.

With the game only 11 minutes old, Hamilton were given the upper hand. Motherwell defender Adam Cummins was sent packing for denying a clear goal scoring opportunity to Accies front man James Martin.

Fifteen minutes later and it was Andy Ryan who put the visitor's in front, capitalising on some good work down the left with a neat finish. Both teams were giving it their all, but the half ended with just the one goal for Hamilton.

The second half was to be an exciting affair, and it wasn't long before Motherwell drew level. Darren Brownlie worked space for himself on the right flank and his terrific ball across the face of goal evaded everyone until Steve Hetherington arrived late at the back post to slot home from a few yards out.

Accies got their nose in front again shortly after though, Andy Ryan smashing in his second from less than a yard out after a scuffed shot slipped past the Motherwell goalkeeper.

Despite the man advantage, Hamilton were having to soak up a lot of pressure from the home team. Hamilton keeper Grier had made a string of fine saves, but was finally beaten when Ewan Murray soared to head home a Josh Watt corner from the left.

Either team could have won it from this point, but it was Hamilton who would take the spoils in this fiercely contested cup tie. James Martin threaded the ball through to Andy Ryan, who from outside the area completed his hat trick with an excellent finish to seal the tie.
