Today's game, Clydeview against Mairns Castle in the PADSFA U16 League Play-off, was a close battle for silverware which added shine to a game which was dampened by dull and miserable weather. It was Clydeview who went home with the winners medals and shield, thanks to a first half goal from .

It was Clydeview who got the match underway at St James Park and looked to get themselves on the front foot with some early possession and a few searching chances. It was Mearns Castle though who had the first real chance of the game when an early free kick looked promising as it made it's way to the back post and had to be put behind but the resulting corner would result in a goal kick.

Mearns Castle found themselves with the majority of possession and begun to play some nice passing football and it wasn't too long before they had another chance when Andrew Hume had a shot on target saved by the Clydeview keeper. This was closely followed by Mearns' Ross Duckett also having an attempt at goal but unfortunately for him the shot went wide.

The balance of play levelled when Clydeview found their real first chance of the game when no 9had a shot on goal which was put out for a corner in which nothing resulted of.

Mearns Castle had the next real chance of the match and the closest to goal so far when Andrew Hume saw his curling shot bounce back off the post to deny them from tacking the lead in the final and a result of Mairns possession in the first 20 minutes.

Clydeview got back into the game moments later though when they started to have more position and create chances of there own with Thomas Livingston having a shot towards the net go wide. It was Clyde's next chance however that was to prove the most crucial of the game. Reece Williamson found space for a shot which found the back of the net to give them that all important lead.

After falling behind Mearns looked for the equaliser and they would have been odds on favourite to get it after they had three successive corners in which three of their players were just millimetres away on all three occasions.

The last action of the fist half saw Clydeview try to get a second before the whistle when their no 9 saw his shot go wide and then the referee signalled for half time.

Half Time Clydeview Academy 1-0 Mearns Castle High School

It was Mearns Castle who got the game restarted and immediately looked to get themselves back in the game when Andrew Hume found himself with a shooting opportunity which he took, only to see the ball go wide for a goal kick.

Clydeview began to dominate the possession and with that came more chances but the only obstacle to prevent them going further ahead was the Mearns defence which stood strong to prevent any penetration into to the net.

Any Clydeview shots which were sent through to the Mearns keeper Robert Rigg were met with some astonishing saves by the number one who was beginning to put in a man of the match performance.

The next real chance fell to Clydeview when their forward took a long shot which promised to excite but the ball went only just wide to deny Clydeview a second goal of the game.

The game began to level out and the battle for the ball as mostly contested in the middle of the park with no team looking favourite to score next.

Any chances that were created came to Mearns who were desperate to find that equalizing goal and heading towards the final minuets but just couldn't find what they were looking for.

The referee blew the whistle to signify that Clydeview were the champions and brought to an end a game which was closely contested and entertaining.

On a wet and windy Saturday, summer morning in paisley two top school sides St Ninians & Paisley Grammar clashed in the U15’s PDSFA Play Off Final at St James which saw a Paisley Grammar show great heart to get the win over St Ninians.

It was Paisley Grammar who got the first half underway but it would be St Ninians who started the better as they had nearly all the control in the opening minutes and it didn’t take long for it to pay off.

It was St Ninians who had the first chance and got the first goal when a corner was put into the band found the head of Liam Runciman who head goal words but it was cleared of the line but only as far as Runciman again who put the wall in the net the second time of asking.

It wouldn’t be too long till Paisley Grammar threading the goal of St Ninians when a long through in caused trouble as a St Ninians defender attempted to clear but headed towards his own goal but his goal keeper showed quick feet to punch it away.

There wouldn’t be danger on the St Ninians goal for a while as St Ninians took control of the game again with numeric chances most coming from setpices or crossed from Daniel McParland.

Paisley Grammar would finely settle into the game and have their first self created chance when a free kick was played to the head of Kyle Magennis who headed it on to James Watret who fired a shot but only to see it blocked away.

The game would take a more settled pace with both sides finding them self with chances. St Ninians would have their chances firstly when Ryan Fitzpatrick on the edge of the box turned a shot on the spin but the shot went wide, it would only be moments later when Daniel McParland shot from the edge of the box was blocked for a corner that would also test the keeper.

Paisley Grammar then found there chance when a bad back pass from the St’s defence allowed Kyle Wilson in on goal but the keeper come out to the St’s rescue. Paisley Grammar’s Ryan Wilson found another chance when a cross into the box found Ryan Wilson who headed over.

After a few more less than notable chances went over or wide it would be Paisley Grammar who took control of the game.

Paisley Grammar started to turn on the heat when a long range shot was saved by Richard Swan’s legs out for a corner which lead to another long range effort from Jack Coulfield who saw great goal keeping save the shot. They continued top put the heat on the Saints when a corner minutes later was close as it gets to in the net but not close enough as it was cleared of the line.

As Paisley Grammar looked for the goal to bring the sides level they left spaces in important places which allowed Daniel McParland to have a long range shot float into the top corner as a Paisley Grammar stranded keeper watched on.

But it wouldn’t be long until Paisley Grammar were back in the game when a free kick was fluted into the box which no Paisley Grammar played was allowed to get to due to pushing in the box. A penalty was awarded in the favour of Paisley Grammar.

Ryan Wilson stepped up to take the spot kick but saw his penalty saved but he had the fastest feet to be the first to get to the rebound and put it in.

Paisley Grammar looked to continue their fight back when good passing play between Aaron Christie and Kyle Magennis allowed the latter to have a shot that beat the keeper and the goal.

Paisley would continue to push for the levier they had one last chance when a long throw in found its way to Kyle Magennis who flicked it on to James Watret who had a shot but the St’s keeper pulled of a good diving save meaning St Ninians went in with a lead.

Half Time: Paisley Grammar School 1-2 St Ninian's High School

It was St Ninian's who got the second half underway. Unlike the first half the first 10 minutes were played in the middle of the park.

This wouldn’t last long as both sides picked up the pace. Similar to earlier in the game St Ninians would have their chances first the most notable being short passing play between Ewan Crombie and Michael Taylor would lead to a shot on goal witch the Paisley Grammar keeper had to do well save.

Paisley then had a notable chance of there owned when Ryan Wilson passed the ball across to Kyle Wilson who misses the ball and this allowed the Saints keeper to recover and get the ball.

Grammar would have some get a slice of luck when a corner that was put in the box causing trouble in the box with the outcome being the ball in the back of the net off the leg of Graeme Wallace.

St Ninian's looked for a quick replay and they got it when Ewan Crombie long ball picked out Liam who slipped the ball past the keeper.

The Paisley outfit were behind again but looked to level again when a defensive error allowed Kyle Magennis though on goal but it would be the Saints goalkeeper who won the battle in the one on one situation.

Paisley Grammar would get their third equaliser of the game when Kyle Wilson jumped the highest to head home a long throw in.

Both sides looked for a winner but on one found the goal to do so meaning extra time.

Full Time: Paisley Grammar School 3-3 St Ninian's High School

St Ninian's were the side to get extra time underway. With time against both sides they both pushed hard to get the goal to give them a lead in this close tie and it would be St Ninian's who got it.

Saints found it in the form of a penalty when a attempted clearance from a Paisley Grammar defender took the legs away from the St Ninian’s attacker instead of the ball. Runciman stepped for his hat-trick, and slotted his penalty into the bottom right hand corner.

It wasn’t long until Paisley Grammar got the leveller when they won a free kick on the edge of the box which also saw a St Ninian's played red carded. Aaron Christie stepped up and put this free kick under the jumping wall and into the net.

At this point in the game it was end to end as both sides went looking for what could be a winner. Both sides would have chance after chance but none of them found the net meaning the side when into the half time in extra time level.

Paisley Grammar started the second half of extra time after a quick water break. It was they who had the first chance of this half when Kyle Wilson ground pass found Kyle Magennis who fired wide. St Ninians then found them self with a chance when Liam had a one on one chance that he could only guide it into the side netting.

Paisley Grammar were the ones who after four times of falling behind took the lead when Aaron Christie won his side a corner that was crossed in to Lewis Smith who headed his side into the net and sparked huge calibrations. In the drama that followed, Paisley were reduced to ten men, making it 10-a-side for the final moments.

St Ninians pushed for an equaliser but Paisley Grammar held strong to be crowned U15’s PDSFA League winners.

Final Result: Paisley Grammar School 4-5 St Ninian's High School (AET)

Port Glasgow BC roundup - 11th/12th May
PGBC Community Coaching

The coaching is ongoing at Parklea Hub every Saturday morning, Alan, Graeme and the boys welcome all kids between 4 and to come along, and thank Crawfurds Car Sales for their continued support.

PGBC 2006s

At Seedhill on Sunday the 3 teams played 4 games each, they played good passing football at times taking their training into their games, well done boys. Scorers Greig Emerson 9, Darren Stevenson 3, Adam Watt 2 and Scott Clark 2.

Sponsored by UPGSC and Crawfurds Car Sales

PGBC 2005s

The 2005s had 12 boys at Notre Dame on Sunday and all 3 teams played well, bringing what they are learning at training onto the park. Kyle Spark and OJ Brisland played really well and worked hard, and the effort from Sean Reeve and Patrick Bryan should be rewarded as they played lots of great passes and moved the ball well.

PGBC 2006s Orange

The boys travelled to Erskine on Saturday morning and overcame an awful playing surface as well as a good Erskine team to secure a victory. In the 1st half most of the play was carried out in the centre of the park with very few attempts on goal but after the break with some changes being made the came out on top. A battling performance by Peter Ingram in the centre of the park lead to the only goal of the game, young Lyle McDonald finishing a great cross. This was a horrible surface but the boys made the most of it and deserved the victory.

Thanks goes to Marcus Humphrey House for their continued sponsorship.

PGBC 2006s Black

The Port boys played host to Erskine YFC at the community stadium this weekend in their first match at tier 1, a run of good results seeing the team step up to play against stronger sides at their age level. Right from the first whistle the difference was evident with Erskine having some good early possession and pressure with the Port boys a yard of the pace, the boys then had an attack of their own which was broken down and Erskine hit quickly on the counter with a nice passing move and finish meaning they went in front. Not long after the boys found themselves 2 behind after slack play at the back gifted Erskine an easy goal, the boys rallied though and as the first half went on came more and more into the game finally finding the pace of the match, some nice play and a great passing move down the right hand side saw the Port boys pull a goal back right on the stroke of half time which for work rate alone was merited. In the second half the Erskine boys came out of the traps a yard quicker than the Port boys having been playing at this level a lot longer, they were using the ball better than the boys on the day going on to score a couple more goals, full marks to the Port boys for their work rate and effort and the coaches are convinced playing against such strong opposition will stand the boys in great stead going forward. Goalscorer McPhee.

Players and coaches thank B Buick and sons (bodyshop) for continued support.

PGBC 2003s

The boys ran out winners at Parklea on Saturday after going in at half time a few goals down, they battled hard and were rewarded with some good goals, well done boys.

PGBC 2001s

Port entertained Linwood Rangers at Parklea on Saturday morning. Linwood took an early lead after breaking up the park from deep inside their own half. Port pressed hard and then forced an error from the Linwood defence and forced an own goal to draw even. Jack Anderson then put Port ahead after a long ball forward from Brandon McCabe was laid off by Declan Adair. Linwood pulled level scoring from a goal mouth scramble, before breaking up a Port attack and scoring again to put them in front. On the stroke of half time Declan Adair pulled Port level with a strike from the edge of the box. In a poor second half for Port, Linwood seemed to take control scoring twice on the counter attack. Brandon McCabe's wonder strike from almost half way into the top corner proved to be nothing more than a consolation for Port.

Port are still on the look out for players to strengthen their squad for the step to 11-a-sides, anyone interested contact Ian on 07753846465.

Thanks to our sponsor INVERWELD for continued support.

PGBC 14s 2 Broomhill 3

In front of a large crowd on Thursday night the derby kicked off, the Port boys gave their all against the league winners but it turned out not to be enough, they held their own for most of the game with 2 goals from Connor Duffy. However a late goal for Broomhill ensured they secured the victory on this occasion. Refs motm Connor Duffy

PGBC 14s 3 Alba Thistle 1

With 4 boys missing there were changes to be made from Thursday nights team but they went on to show a good performance. Goals from Thomas Liesk, Captain Ciaran Murray and Paul Payne ensured the spoils. Although they went one nil down very early on the fought back and played some great football at times, a special mention to Connor Hair, stand in centre half who’s assist gave Big Paul his goal. A strong impressive display from Connor Duffy gave him motm again.

PGBC 16s 3 Mojams 4

Scorers : Chris Grierson, Ayden Sharp, Kyle McKay

Port continued with their Christmas theme of teams a couple of goals start before deciding we need to start scoring at the other end. Port travelled to Paisley with the bear essentials of 11 fit players, and to their credit with the team been shuffled and players asked to play in positions strange to them battled away and should have not lost this game as they dominated this game by a country mile. First half they had been comfortable with their opponents and the wind until the last 10mins when decided to let their opponents open their Christmas presents. Half time with a kick up the back side didn't work as they gave away the third with soft defending from the right hand side allowing it to go up. this was the wake up call and they bombarded the other team for the rest of the game. chances galore fell with that final connection the lacking factor. performance wise, it was a great effort but lessons to be learned " stop giving your opponents gifts". training as normal as Tuesday, the team wish Big Paul a speedy recovery.

All parents are asked to contact Alex with reference to presentation night tickets on Tuesday at Parklea or by phone.
