The youngster acknowledged the strength of the opposition of Central, who they had previously unsuccessfully met in the League Cup final, and a few times in the league.
Paton admitted the team was “nervous, but as well we were all excited”. And, despite the 5-0 loss, she said, “I think we’ve done the best that we could.”
“Obviously we’re quite disappointed about the score, but we played well,” she added, after an end-to-end second half which almost saw Glasgow City come back into it. However, the Central keeper denied them at various times and the chances slipped away.
The game was held at Toryglen in front of a packed crowd, which Paton was keen to mention. “The crowd have been quite supportive, and have all been excited.” It is a crowd that has been very vocal over the course of Glasgow City’s cup-run, which saw them get past a tricky Hibernian side in the semi-final.
It was the left-back’s first cup final, and she certainly enjoyed the experience. Hopefully it’ll be the first of many, and the signs are encouraging as Glasgow City were represented in every age category at the SWF Youth Cup!
