Celtic U17s ran out the victors in the young Old Firm derby after an intense game at Lennoxtown, comfortably dispatching Rangers.

Celtic got off to a flyer with Scott Robertson and Paul Kennedy giving them a 2-0 advantage. Kennedy's superlative free kick in the first 10 minutes was particularly a highlight, but Rangers grew into the game more with Matt Yates giving the Gers a lifeline at half time.

Yates then gave Rangers their equaliser after some great link up play between him and Murray Miller. But then Celtic turned it on more and regained their lead after Robertson's shot was saved but he was their to tap the rebound home.

The game was killed off after some great footwork from Karamoko Dembele was finished off by a wonderful strike from the young star. The icing on the cake came after a great save from Lewis Budinauckas the ball falls to Kennedy who cuts it back to Barry Coffey who taps it in from close range.

The game stated at a high tempo with both teams pressing high and a real intensity about their press but it was Celtic who took the lead after some lacklustre Rangers defending let Robertson through and he was able to tap it round the on rushing Budinauckas.

It wasn't long after that when Celtic doubled their lead and it came from a bit of class after Dembele was fouled. Up stepped Kennedy who was able to curl the free kick over the wall and right into the top corner giving the 'keeper no chance.

After that Rangers grew into the game with Adedapo Mebude causing all sorts of problems down the right hand side and he was so unlucky after he showed his pace and power to get to the by-line to cut it back along the edge of the six yard box, but there was no one there to get the final touch.

Rangers were able to get a way back into the game and it came from a Zac Butterworth cross and Yates was there to tap the ball in from very close range.

The second half started with Celtic on the front foot with Dembele in particular causing all sorts of difficulties down the left and cutting in but his shot was just wide.

They really should have extended their lead and if it wasn't for the outstanding Budinauckas they would have done when he saved after more great play from Dembele when he turned three Rangers players but it was well saved.

They were made to regret missing these chances when, on the counter, Yates got his second. It came from some great link up play between him and Murray Miller. the ball fell to Yates on the edge of the box and he puts in into the far corner.

Celtic started to put the pressure on more after that and regained their lead six minutes later. It came when Robertson hit a shot from close range. Budinauckas was unable to hold and there was Robertson to finish from close range.

Dembele really killed the game after that when he cut in from the left managed to get a yard of space just out side the box and he was able to finish into the bottom left.

Celtics final goal came after Budinauckas made another great save the ball fell to Kennedy on the by line he put it into the six yard box and there was Coffey to tap home from very close range.

Star Player
Karamoko Dembele Although he missed some guilt edge chances, he was still very effective in his play, his pace, his dribbling ability proved to be a danger for Rangers the whole night and I can see this boy going far in the game
Adedapo Mebude Similar to Dembele. His pace and power were dangerous the whole night but his only downfall was his lack of an end product but he is still young and has all the tools to make it to the top.
Magic Moment
Paul Kennedy His stunning free kick. It is such difficult technique to master, trying to get the ball up and down from such close range and it was wonderful to watch.
The quick passing between Murray and Yates for the rangers second goal was quite something, it was 3 passes got them from the halfway line to the edge of the box and then the wonderfully executed finish.
Club Views
Celtic now look like they will qualify for the final with Queens Park, and quite comfortably as well.
Rangers have it all to do to try and get through the group stages and this turns next weeks game at Auchenhowie into a must win game for the Gers
