Saturday 2nd June saw Duddingston Primary School's Primary 6 and 7 teams enter the excellently organised and refereed Royal High Tournament. Below both teams review their fortunes...

Primary 6 (Under 11)

With comments made every week from opposition about the way the kids play football, it was fantastic end to the season seeing the kids get a well deserved reward. A fantastic opening win against Royal High, set Duddy p6s on their way.
Some lovely goals with Olly Rudge (2), Michael Corneilius, Liam Neil, Jamie Martin and Ryan McGrory all on the score sheet gave the boys a 6-0 win which got the confidence flowing.

However, a defeat in the second game against a physical and strong St Mary's team left the boys knowing they had to win the last match to have any chance. The last match saw some lovely passing and moving which had the boys 2-0 up with 8 minutes gone, only for Parsons Green to draw level 4 minutes later. Another goal for Duddy with Parsons Green equalising shorty afterwards left the game in the balance. Magnificent defending by Arran McVie and some great saves by Tom Angus (p4) led to some great play by Liam Neil who gave the boys a 4-3 victory with some fantastic individual play late into the game.

St. Mary's went into the last game looking for a win to clinch the tournament but Royal High hoping to come away with something from the day stood firm and came out 2-1 winners. Duddy topped the group with 6 points, with St. Mary's runner up on 4 points.

Duddingston Squad:
Tom Angus (P4), Arran McVie, James Stewart, Michael Lonie, James McBain, Jamie Martin, Olly Rudge (P5), Michael Cornelius, Ryan McGrory, Liam Neil.

Coaches: Matty Ogilvie, Gary Sutherland, Stevie Angus.

Primary 7 (Under 12)

A great way to leave the school. Would have been so unfair if their football brought no rewards.

Fate would bring Duddingston P7s to play their final match on the same pitch where they played their first match 4 years ago. They lost that match convincingly but have came a long way since.

After drawning their opening match 2-2 it came down to a winner takes all game against the very team that handed out that first loss all these years ago. Royal High. With virtually the same boys that played in that learning curve game, produced one of their best and passionate performances to beat a very good and powerful Royal High team 2-0.
It was the first time the 2001 born squad had won silverware in four years and nobody who has watched them play over the last few years would grudge them their moment of glory. They have always tried to entertain sometimes without the reward, on Saturday they got their reward - on the final day wearing the blue and yellow of Duddingston.

Duddingston Squad: Cameron McDonald, Ciaron Anderson, Findlay Martin, Thomas MacLlean, Jordan Mackie, Harris MacLean, Leno De Gaetano, Jack Parker, Brandon Hunter.

Coaches: Davide de Gaetano, Callum Mackie.
