Drumsagard U16s progressed to the fourth round of the Scottish Youth Football Associaton Cup as they beat Larkhall United U16s after a penalty shoot-out.  Both teams braved horrible weather conditions as they battled to a 2-2 draw after normal time. Extra time saw more rain, and more goals, yet neither team were able to find a winner as the 3-3 draw sent the tie to penalties.
Drumsagard coped better with the poor conditions in the early stages and created their first opportunity after five minutes.  Goalkeeper Jamie Barnes' long pass was flicked on and Andrew Hamilton ran onto it to volley over the bar.
After a quarter of an hour Drumsagard made the breakthrough.  A long free kick into the box caused some confusion and Ronan Daly pounced to finish well into the bottom corner.
Two minutes later Drumsagard had a chance to double their lead.  A through ball was played into the path of Daly who's shot was saved by Larkhall goalkeeper Jordan Devlin.  Callum Scott ran onto the rebound, however his shot was straight at Devlin who held onto the strike.
Drumsagard had most of the possession and most of the territory and it wasn't long before they made it 2-0.  Andrew Hamilton collected the ball on the halfway line and drove at the Larkhall United backline.  His attempted through ball was cut out by the defence, however it ended up back in Hamilton's possession and he placed the ball into the bottom corner.
Towards the end of the half Larkhall got themselves back into the game.  Devlin collected the ball and started a fantastic counter attack.  His long ball up the park was controlled brilliantly by Adam Breslin who put Kieran Lang through on goal.  Lang kept his cool and slotted the ball past the onrushing Barnes to ensure that Larkhall United were only one goal behind at half time.

Eight minutes into the second half, Larkhall drew level.  A cross from the right hand side was headed away, however the ball fell into Lang who hit a half volley into the far corner from the right side of the box.
Larkhall seemed to draw confidence from their equaliser and nearly took the lead shortly after.  A bouncing ball into the box found Breslin who tried to lift it over Barnes as the goalkeeper closed him down.  Barnes, however produced a great save as he pushed the ball over the bar.
Drumsagard stepped up midway through the half and created a couple of good chances for Steven Conner from set pieces. A corner from the right hand side was met by the defender who's powerful header skimmed the crossbar.
With ten minutes to go Drumsagard won a free kick near the left hand touchline.  The ball was swung and found Conner unmarked at the back post, however the ball bobbled just as he went to strike it and his shot missed the target.
With that, the last chance of normal time came and went, and the 2-2 draw meant the tie was going to extra time.

Drumsagard started extra time the better team and scored their third two minutes after the restart. Daly was put through on goal and poked a neat finish past Devlin to give his side the advantage.

Drumsagard threatened to extend their lead a couple of times in the first half of extra time as they caused Larkhall problems from set pieces. Both Daly and Scott headed straight at Devlin as they looked to put the tie beyond doubt.

As the second half of extra time wore on, Larkhall United looked increasingly more dangerous as they pushed forward for an equaliser. Ross Anderson leapt highest to meet a cross from the right, however his header crashed against the crossbar and was cleared to safety.

With minutes left, Larkhall made a slightly bizarre change as goalkeeper Devlin was placed up front and Shaun McTaggart took his place in goal.

However bizarre the change, it paid dividends as with little time left Devlin scored the equaliser. Lang found himself one on one with Barnes and the ball broke loose to Devlin who tapped the ball into an empty net from a few yards out and send the game to penalty kicks.

Drumsagard were to go first and Scott stepped up to hit a shot just beyond the reach of McTaggart and into the net.

First up for Larkhall United was Kyle Cerretti who aimed for the top right hand corner. Unfortunately his strike just missed the target.

The second round of penalties saw Dylan Love for Drumsagard and Lang for Larkhall both find the bottom left corner.

Third for Drumsagard was Ryan Park who calmly passed the ball into the bottom right hand corner. Jonathan Lamond took Larkhall's third kick and followed Park's lead by placing the ball into the right side of the net.

Steven Conner went fourth for Drumsagard and he drilled his kick into the bottom left hand corner. Callum Brown stepped up next for Larkhall United knowing if he missed his team would be knocked out. Brown, however, showed nerves of steel and hit a good penalty into the left hand side of the net.

This meant that Ronan Daly stepped up fifth for Drumsagard with the chance to send his side through the fourth round. If he was feeling the pressure he didn't show it as he struck the ball into the bottom right hand corner to give his side a 5-3 victory in the shootout.

In the end it was Drumsagard who progressed to the fourth round of the SYFA Cup winning what was your stereotypical cup tie with lots of twists, turns, and goals.

The winning penalty. It doesn't get much better than winning a shootout!
The first goal. Breslin's first touch to bring a high ball down was brilliant as was his through ball. He set Laing up perfectly who finished well.
