Drumsagard U16s progressed to the fourth round of the Scottish Youth Football Associaton Cup as they beat Larkhall United U16s after a penalty shoot-out. Both teams braved horrible weather conditions as they battled to a 2-2 draw after normal time. Extra time saw more rain, and more goals, yet neither team were able to find a winner as the 3-3 draw sent the tie to penalties.
Drumsagard coped better with the poor conditions in the early stages and created their first opportunity after five minutes. Goalkeeper Jamie Barnes' long pass was flicked on and Andrew Hamilton ran onto it to volley over the bar.
After a quarter of an hour Drumsagard made the breakthrough. A long free kick into the box caused some confusion and Ronan Daly pounced to finish well into the bottom corner.
Two minutes later Drumsagard had a chance to double their lead. A through ball was played into the path of Daly who's shot was saved by Larkhall goalkeeper Jordan Devlin. Callum Scott ran onto the rebound, however his shot was straight at Devlin who held onto the strike.
Drumsagard had most of the possession and most of the territory and it wasn't long before they made it 2-0. Andrew Hamilton collected the ball on the halfway line and drove at the Larkhall United backline. His attempted through ball was cut out by the defence, however it ended up back in Hamilton's possession and he placed the ball into the bottom corner.
Towards the end of the half Larkhall got themselves back into the game. Devlin collected the ball and started a fantastic counter attack. His long ball up the park was controlled brilliantly by Adam Breslin who put Kieran Lang through on goal. Lang kept his cool and slotted the ball past the onrushing Barnes to ensure that Larkhall United were only one goal behind at half time.
