Kelty overcome the wind and Thornton to book final place

Written by  Kelty Marian Colts

Fixture: Thornton Hibs v Kelty Marian Colts
Competition: Under 19's Summer Cup Semi Final
Date: 08/03/15

Both teams had to battle against a very strong across pitch wind. The game began with a few 50/50 tackles being made.

Thornton Hibs were first to take the lead with a cross that troubled the Kelty goalkeeper due to the wind and left him stranded off his line, which Thornton were able to capitalised from.

Kelty found their equaliser from a long through ball which was met from a well timed midfield run from Jamie Buchan, who was able to beat the Thornton goalkeeper to the ball and poke it into the goals.

Kelty began to create a couple more chances, but their equaliser was cancelled out when yet again another wind assisted cross, and miscommunication from the Kelty defence and goalkeeper allowed Thornton to take a 2-1 lead going into half time.

Half Time : Thornton Hibs 2-1 Kelty Marian Colts

Kelty began the second half with new found energy and closed and pressed the Thornton players at every opportunity.

This full pressing play from Kelty was soon to pay off and it did, from winning the ball from a Thornton attack, a counter attack was on for Kelty. A long pass down the left wing was met by Greg Lowe, who skipped by the Thornton right back, cut on to his right foot and played a low curling cross into the box which (wind assisted) ended in the far bottom corner.

Kelty began to push on and look for their third but Thornton defence were able to keep the Kelty attacks at bay.

All except for an in swinging corner from the left by Jay Malcolm, was met at the back post by Kenny Ford with a lopping header into the far top corner, which gave Kelty the lead.

Thornton's pressure was showing on the Kelty defence with Thornton hitting the bar, and forcing a few point blank saves from the Kelty goalkeeper.

Even with this pressure, Kelty were able to hold out their lead and make it to the final of the Summer Cup again, a cup they have successful won the last 2 previous seasons, a real trademark for the club to make it to the final 3 years in a row.
