Newtyle United coach named sportscotland's Young Person Coach of the Year

Newtyle United manager and coach Colin McLaren has been announced as sportscotland's Young Person Coach of the Year 2015 for the Tayside & Fife region.
McLaren has been instrumental in the club's progression and expansion, overseeing the development of Newtyle United from a start-up team in 2013 through a highly successful first season at Under 10 level. Since then the club has grown from just three young boys to over 60 boys and girls aged four to ten.
Based in Newtyle, Angus the club now also uses facilities in nearby Coupar Angus, Perthshire in order to accommodate the growing demand for places at their successful Saturday Soccer School. The club has competitive teams at the 2005 age group playing in the Dundee District YF League and next year will also have a team in the 2007 league. Newtyle's younger players participate in tournaments and festivals at five-a-side and fun fours level.
John Duffy, Newtyle United Assistant Manager praised McLaren on his achievement, saying: "Colin has put in place a structure that has gotten the club SFA accreditation and the Angus Council Gold Club level award. In growing the club he has made sure that there are numerous qualified coaches, specialist goalkeeper coaching and external training from both Box Soccer and Coerver.
"The result of this quality of training is that kids from nearby towns are now playing for the club. The quality is also being recognised by others as we now have three players training at the Dundee United Youth Academy and one has just been accepted for the 20/20 development squad.
"Given all that has been achieved in just over two years, I cannot think of anyone more deserving of the recognition."
