Two goals in the space of a minute earned Pitfour a spot in the last 16 of the East Region Cup. Kairn Brand and Ben Clos’s goals put Pitfour in the driving seat, and they made sure there was no Dundee West comeback with a professional performance.

Pitfour knocked Dundee West out of the Jean Pierre Babin Cup on penalties and came flying out of the traps. Alistar Alcorn’s early strike brought a save out of David Boylan. The resulting corner was cleared only as far as Ross Cameron, and his stinging strike was tipped over by Boylan.

The visitors finally broke the deadlock when Alcorn bested Morgan Harrow on the left, and despite Boylan smothering his shot, Kairn Brand was on hand to smash the loose ball into the net.

Less than a minute later Ben Clos gathered the ball 20 yards from goal, and he proceeded to drive into the box and slip the ball past Boylan into the corner.

Kai Finnie nearly added to Dundee West’s woes when he spotted Boylan off his line, but he lifted the ball narrowly over the bar.

Dundee West were growing into the game and had their first chance when Ryley Duncan slipped in Logan Smith, who saw his shot blocked by a Pitfour defender. The resulting corner was missed by Pitfour keeper Archie Kelly-Barton, which allowed Lewis Hutton a shot at goal, but a Pitfour body diverted the ball away from danger.

After a largely comfortable first half, Pitfour nearly handed Dundee West a lifeline moments after the restart. Cavan McLaren pounced on a loose pass back to Kelly-Barton, but the keeper got a touch on his effort and Rory Harrower raced back to deny McLaren a tap in.

Duncan could only volley wide when the ball fell to him at the edge of Pitfour’s box. Jordan Turnbull took the ball round Boylan but couldn’t force it into the empty net at a tight angle.

Logan Piggott went close with a free kick from 20 yards, but time was against Dundee West as they tried to find a way back into the match. Jordan Turnbull was dismissed late on, but Pitfour weren’t troubled in the time remaining, and advanced to the quarter-finals, where they will take on Aberdour SDC.

Lewis Hutton - The Dundee West forward put in a power of work, and was unlucky not to score in the first half.
Kairn Brand - The Pitfour midfielder controlled the midfield and got his side's opening goal. Broke up plenty of Dundee West attacks and looked dangerous in possession.
Magic Moment

Boylan's Save from Alcorn - A fine stop inside the opening minutes of the match.
Clos's Goal - Super skill to get the ball under control, and the coolest of finishes at the end of it.
