East Craigie Swifts completed the quadruple as they came from behind to beat Scone Thistle in the East Region Cup.

It was both side's first appearance in a regional cup final and it was Scone that made a bright start when Duncan McPhee released Ben Ayton, but he fired his shot over the bar.

Ayton went close after 14 minutes when he looped a header from a corner against the crossbar.

Scone did make the break through moments later when Aaron Carlon collected a long free kick, rounded Charlie Kennedy and fired the ball into the empty net. It was a well-deserved lead for Scone, who had started brightly.

Their good work was nearly undone when Ewan Faulkner met Reece Lornie's free kick, but he didn't get enough on the ball allowing Blaine Wood to keep it out. McPhee shot over from distance before Carlon blazed a free kick over from the edge of the box.

Two minutes before half time East Craigie equalised through Keir Gardiner. The striker was sent in one-on-one with Wood and made no mistake as he slotted the ball past the keeper.

McPhee curled a shot inches past the upright in the opening minutes of the first half. It would prove to be a costly miss as Faulkner headed a Lornie free kick past Wood.

A Faulkner cut back was deflected into Matt McKinnon, but he fired his shot over from inside the box. When the big striker went down in the box, East Craigie had the chance to extend their lead.

Hayden Burr, who netted in both of their domestic cup finals stepped up and found the bottom left corner. Wood dived the right way but couldn't keep the defender's effort out.

Scone were handed a lifeline 20 minutes from time when Ayton picked the ball up 25 yards from goal and rifled a shot into the top corner.

East Craigie's fourth was straight from the training ground as Lornie played a low free kick into Euan Fallon, who swept the ball past Wood at the near post.

The tackles continued to fly in as the full time whistle approached. Scone were reduced to 10 as the game entered injury time and when Callum McCleary slipped in Lornie there was only ever going to be one outcome as the East Craigie captain drilled in the fifth.

Scone were awarded a penalty five minutes into injury time and Carlon converted it to reduce the deficit.

While the result didn’t go their way, reaching the final of the Regional Cup is an impressive feat that these Scone players shouldn’t forget. They stifled East Craigie in the first half and kept fighting to the end of the final whistle.

As for East Craigie, this caps off another remarkable season from them. Scone’s style disrupted their normal style of play, but like the best teams, they won without being at their best. To win the quadruple is an achievement that can only be quantified in years to come, as it’s unlikely this feat will be repeated too often over the coming years.
