Aberdeen vs Dundee - Under 14sThe second annual Denis Law Soccer Tournament saw teams competing at the Under 14s age group for the first time. The final was to be contested by Aberdeen and Dundee, with the prospect of a great game in store.

Aberdeen won 5-1 when the sides met on Wednesday, in a group fixture that was abandoned at half time due to torrential weather and a waterlogged pitch. Having won all of their group games the Dons held the favourites tag, but they were to be stunned by Dundee who emerged victorious, winning 4-1 after coming from behind.

The boys in red were to get an early goal when Matthew Wallace passed into the feet of top scorer Paul Esslemont who then did the rest. The hot shot striker ran an extra 5 yards before firing the ball into the bottom left hand corner past Kyle Gourlay.

Aberdeen produced some great passing and movement once again and Esslemont had a chance to get his second of the game but from a tight angle it went narrowly wide.

The game developed into a midfield battle and both teams were having a good go at it. Dundee were the next to threaten and it produced their equaliser. In the 33rd minute Scott Milne’s cross was met by Max Avolio who placed a brilliant diving header past Robbie Mutch into the bottom right hand corner.

The Taysiders then had a goal chalked off when Avolio was judged to have fouled Mutch. The Aberdeen goalkeper required treatment and the half fizzled out with both sides inseparable.

Dundee had an early chance to take the lead as the second half got underway when a great ball sent in by Max Avolio found Scott Milne. However, his effort went straight at Mutch.

The Taysiders were in control and they managed to get their noses in front with a breathtaking counter attack. A well executed pass from Ross Cunningham was delicately backheeled by Kyle Clark into the path of Max Avolio who placed the ball into the bottom left hand corner.

Aberdeen nearly found an equaliser when Esslemont found Scott Wright whose effort just went wide of the left hand post.

However, by this stage the Dark Blues were well on top and they doubled their advantage when Cunningham played in Matthew Davidson. The left winger kept his composure and placed the ball into the bottom right hand corner.

Aberdeen then had to thank Robbie Mutch in goals for keeping the score down when a great cross by Avolio was met by Clark but the Dons stopper pulled off an excellent save.

Dundee sealed their win when John Black cut inside from the right and sent over drilled cross, which was headed into the top right hand corner by Callum Beattie.
Both teams have played fantastic football over the course of the week and can be proud of their showings. However, it was a stunning display from a Dundee side who blew their opponents away in the second half and were deserved victors.
