Aberdour vs Inverkeithing HS Blue - Under 19sAberdour U19’s hit Inverkeithing Hillfield Swifts Blue for nine in this one sided AFYFC Division 1 encounter at Hawcraig Park.

It was a game the hosts dominated on a very slippery pitch given the wet conditions prior to kick off.

After an even first ten minutes it was Aberdour who began to exert some pressure and eventually got the breakthrough after 17 minutes. Darren Cairns was fed the ball through the Swifts’ defence and fired the ball via the post beyond Craig Holding in the Swifts’ goal.

The game had barely restarted when Aberdour doubled their lead. It was slack marking from Swifts as Scott Brown had plenty of time to control the ball in the penalty box. He managed to steady himself before shooting past Holding.

Swifts could have grabbed a goal back two minutes later but Liam McOmish saw his effort pushed behind for a corner by Aberdour goalkeeper Stuart Paterson.

Aberdour were gifted a third goal on the half hour mark after a defensive mistake by Conor Drury. He played the ball across his own penalty box, presumably towards Holding, but substitute Conor Hay was quick to react and rounded Holding before slotting into the empty net.

On 41 minutes Aberdour piled on more pressure but somehow failed to score. Adam Kerr crossed from the right and Cairns met the ball from a few yards out. His effort however came off the post. The danger was not over for Swifts though. The ball was picked up by Craig Mitchell and he hit a shot that Holding pushed high into the air. The ball bounced off the crossbar before eventually being headed clear by the Swifts’ defence.

Half Time: Aberdour 3-0 Inverkeithing Hillfield Swifts Blue

Swifts had no option but to try and score a quick goal as the second half got underway and started brightly with some good possession.

It was the hosts though who scored next to make it 4-0. The impressive Hay did well down the right side to get away from his marker. He swung in a low cross and Mitchell met the ball at the near post with a “Gianfranco Zola-esque” flick.

Goal number five came three minutes later and Sean Johnstone was the creator. He floated a great ball from the right to the far post to strike partner Hay who simply nodded home.

The goals kept coming for rampant Aberdour and a minute later it was Johnstone who opened his account. He picked up the ball on the edge of the box and shot in to the left corner.

Things got worse for Swifts on 69 minutes later as Holding found himself picking the ball out of the net for the seventh time. After a corner was cleared, a second was delivered by Johnstone from the right. Scott Gilfillan saw his header come back off the bar and it was defender Jon Davidson who bundled the ball into the net.

Dangerman Johnstone got his second on 75 minutes when he was played through by Kerr and despatched the ball beyond Holding.

Aberdour rounded off a successful afternoons work with goal number nine on 89 minutes. It was that combination of strikers Hay and Johnstone again as they burst forward. Hay ran towards the box and passed for the unmarked Johnstone to score a well deserved hat-trick.

Much to Swifts’ relief the referee brought the game to an end. They will have to pick themselves up for their next game from this heavy defeat. Aberdour always looked in control and it soon became obvious as the game progressed it would be a case of “how many?” for them. Nine goals and a clean sheet a very pleasing afternoon for them indeed.
