Stewarton defeated a brave Ochiltree side to lift the Central Ayrshire Supplementary Cup at Blair Park, Hurlford.
Stewarton started strongly and could have taken the lead in the second minute but John Foster could not generate enough power on his near post header to trouble the keeper. However, Stewarton broke the deadlock four minutes later when the referee pointed to the spot after much deliberation with his linesman he adjudged that Ochiltree full back, Robbie Hume, pushed an opponent in the back at the far post. Sam Sheach buried the penalty amidst the controversy.
Ochiltree fought back and pressed for an equaliser. Jamie Morris's cross looked to have picked out Ryan brown for a tap in but the goalkeeper intercepted at his near post in the 13th minute. Stewarton's dogged defence restricted Ochiltree to shots from range but their next big chance arrived in the 23rd minute when a long free kick bounced about in the penalty area but Brown's weak shot from four yards was blocked by a Stewarton defender on the line.
In the closing stages of the first half the game turned into a scrappy midfield battle with both sides creativity being snuffed out by strong defending.
Half time: Ochiltree Youth 0-1 Stewarton Annick
The tempo was upped at the start of the second half. Stewarton nearly doubled their lead in the 42nd minute when half time substitute Robbie Hamilton's corner from the left side found Jack Watson completely unmarked 8 yards out but his bullet header clipped the outside of the post.
12 minutes later it was Ochiltree's turn to be denied by the woodwork. A long free kick into the box was only half cleared to the edge of the area where Lyam Robets rifled a left foot shot off the base of the upright. In the 57th minute a dangerous free kick from Jamie Morris was punched away by the Stewarton keeper, Lee Harkness, under pressure.
Two minutes later, Stewarton's Daniel Law was played clean through but he dragged his shot from eight yards wide of goal. It was a glaring miss that was nearly punished but Ochiltree's Aqib Ali saw his header cleared off the line by Sheach in the 63rd minute.
Ochiltree were desperately seeking a leveller but were caught with a sucker punch in the 67th minute. Captain, Reagan Hutchison misjudged his clearance which Lauchlan Dearie pounced upon and he neatly rolled the ball square to Law to go one on one with Ochiltree keeper, Callum Park, and this time made no mistake to cooly slot home Stewarton's second.
The cup was sealed by the goal of the game in the 72nd minute. Sam Sheach fired a thunderbolt of a strike from 25 yards over the keeper and into the top corner for his second and Stewarton's third. Ochiltree were not going to give up though. Ryan Brown fired a low shot into the arms of Harkness from 18 yards and a free kick from the halfway line evaded everyone in the box and hit the post five minutes from time.
Ochiltree pressed for a consolation for their efforts but their days frustration was summed up in the 78th minute. A Hutchison free kick from 20 yards was spilled by Harkness into the path of Ryan Brown but from three yards the goalkeeper bravely threw himself at the feet of the Ochiltree striker to sensationally block.
An injury time penalty was awarded to Ochiltree when Ryan Brown's shirt was tugged in the area. Morris stepped up to slot home the penalty to give Ochiltree some return from the game with the last action of the match.
