Lewis United beat A League rivals Middlefield Wasps by seven goals to one in an entertaining and attacking Trans World Soccer Scottish Youth FA Cup tie at Balmedie’s Beach Park.
Lewis had the first opportunity of the match, as a pass from Jake Horne found Ben Morrison, whose shot was well saved by Middlefield’s Sean Paterson to keep the game scoreless.
A few minutes later Lewis took the lead, as Morrison’s corner into the box found the net from a Middlefield player, resulting in an own goal to give the away side the lead.
Lewis had three good chances in five minutes, firstly Bradley Wilson’s low shot from the right was saved by Paterson. Joe Sutherland and Jake Horne’s effort's then couldn't find the target.
However, Lewis eventually doubled their lead, as a good pass by Sutherland found Wilson, whose shot from the right hand side found the back of the net.
Two minutes later and Lewis were 3-0 ahead, as Wilson’s shot from the right hand side of the box found the back of the net for his second of the match.
Despite the score line, Middlefield were putting pressure on their opponents, winning some corners and showing good determination to create chances to reduce the deficit.
Three minutes later though it was 4-0 to the visitors. Stuart Smith’s pass found Wilson, who expertly chipped the ball into the net to complete his hat-trick in exquisite fashion.
As half time approached, Lewis added another to their tally as Reece Mckerron’s pass found Morrison whose high range shot found the net.

Lewis looked to start the second half in the same way that they ended the first. Jack Cowie’s pass found Matthew McLaren, whose shot went just wide of the target.
Despite the second half looking more even than the first, Lewis extended their lead, as Mckerron’s ball in from the right found Wilson, who finished off the move to make it 6-0.
Lewis continued to pile on the pressure, and Middlefield’s substitute goalkeeper Matthew Middleton made a good save to deny Sutherland.
Middlefield’s determination paid off as they pulled a goal back, as Finlay Runcie’s corner from the right found the net to score Middlefield’s first goal of the match.
Middlefield looked to add a second, and Jack Burnett’s pass found Luke Scott, whose low effort was saved by Grant Middleton in the Lewis goal.
Lewis scored their seventh of the match with a few minutes remaining, as Cowie’s low shot from the right hand side found the net, as Lewis convincingly booked their place in the second round of the cup.
Despite the score, Middlefield can be pleased with their efforts and drive throughout the match, while Lewis will be delighted with how prolific they were in front of goal.
