Should Referee's Be Taxed On Earnings? - by: On_The_Ball http://www.youthfootballscotland.co.uk/forum?func=view&catid=2&id=6378#6378 http://www.youthfootballscotland.co.uk/forum?func=view&catid=2&id=6378#6378
If there were no coaches there would be no football either so that argument does not wash with me.

I do not think that refs should be getting paid at all but they are even if it is too much. If anything it should be a token fee.

Referee's can make them self a small fortune in a week. Lets look at the structure.

11 aside youth = £38.00 per game

Amateur = £40.00 per game

So you do two games on a Saturday and two on a Sunday there is anything from £152 to £160

Now lets add in the midweek games. I know some refs who are refereeing up to three or even four games midweek some times.

So lets add that on based on 3 midweek games.

Anything from another £114 to £120 added onto the weekend cash.

So if you wanted to as a ref you could in the height of the season make yourself £266 to £280 a week. CASH IN HAND. NON TAXED

Not a bad wage for the hours. A lot more than some people get working a 40 hour week. This of course does not include 5 aside leagues throughout the season as well that they can make money from.

I think its about time that they had to declare these earnings as an income.]]>

Scottish Youth Champions League 2013 - by: Milngavie Wanderers http://www.youthfootballscotland.co.uk/forum?func=view&catid=2&id=6367#6367 http://www.youthfootballscotland.co.uk/forum?func=view&catid=2&id=6367#6367
What are everyone's thoughts on the teams confirmed so far? How is their season progressing and who will be crowned Champion of Champions!

Milngavie Wanderers: Hosts of the tournament, Milngavie won the Glasgow & District league in 2012 having won 27 of their 30 matches. They secured the League Cup with a 5-0 win against Celtic and repeated that shoreline against the same opponents in the West Regional final. It was a fantastic treble for the teams first season together.

This season the club has recently retained its Glasgow League title, winning 18 and drawing 1 of their 19 games so far. It also seen the club progress to the Quarter final stage of this years Scottish Cup, having narrowly lost to this years finalists Albion in Aberdeen. Milngavie have established themselves as one of the up and coming clubs in the country at the 99 age group and will be hoping to go one better this season after reaching last years SYCL final.

Dyce: Dyce are the current Aberdeen & District champions having completed a perfect season. They completed an outstanding treble having lifted two cups and made the Quarter Final stage of the Scottish in 2012.

This season the club has gone from strength to strength, winning all 18 league games again it looks like the club will retain its title. They went one stage further in this years Scottish having agonisingly lost out to rivals Albion. Dyce were considered by many as the favourites for the national cup this year and will be looking to prove that on Sunday 16th June.

Gow Valley: Gow are the current Lanarkshire champions having achieved a similar feat to Dyce and completed a perfect season in 2012. They also collected the a league cup to complete the double that season. Gow reached last years semi finals but missed out to eventual winners Hutchison Vale.

Incredibly, just like Dyce, Gow have never dropped points in the league since they began competitive football. On course to retain their crown as Lanarkshire champions and in two cup finals they will be looking to complete a treble in 2013. Another club who made the Quarter Finals of this years Scottish but lost a nerve shredding shoot out to fellow competitors Dyce. One of Scotland's most feared sides, Gow will be one of the favourites going into the event.

Tass Thistle: This is Tass' second year in the SYCL having won the Ayrshire league, again with a perfect season 20 wins from 20. They completed a magnificent season with a treble having won the League and CYP trophy. 2012 was a strong year for Tass as they reached the Quarter Final of the Scottish before going out to Gow.

This season Tass have moved into the very competitive Paisley & District league and are currently 3rd. They will be hoping to improve on their strong showing in last years SYCL after being knocked out in the final match by winners Hamilton.

We will be bringing more information on teams as they confirm their place, with some very exciting and successful clubs on board. This year we have extended our tournament to 8 teams, it will be the top event of the summer at the 99 age group!]]>

Ian Mackay's facilities plea - by: robbie http://www.youthfootballscotland.co.uk/forum?func=view&catid=2&id=6362#6362 http://www.youthfootballscotland.co.uk/forum?func=view&catid=2&id=6362#6362
I WAS at Saughton Enclosure again on Friday, May 10th, 2013, and I got soaked - AGAIN! Heavy rain fell on this dump of a place prior to the start of the under-17 Victor Paris Cup Final between Spartans and North Merchison Club. It was so miserable, Spartans - recent winners of the SYFA Challenge Cup in Airdrie - had to halt their warm-up and try to find shelter from the downpour under the branches of a tree that is in a back garden of the houses situated on the far side of the ground. Saughton Enclosure is the modern-day equivalent of THE DISGRACE OF EDINBURGH. In no way does that take away the real DISGRACE OF EDINBURGH - our elected representatives and those who serve under them as paid officials (Civil Servants) in the City Chambers in the High Street.

I will soon be 79 years of age and this absolute pit of a sports venue is virtually the same now as it was when I was young, apart from the pitch. It used to be considered the best pitch in Edinburgh but at the most recent of the festival of cup finals arranged by the South East Youth FA, the grass was in need of a cut and some of the lines must have been done by a drunk person. Gouges in the turf, areas where the grass was so long it held up the ball when players attempted to pass on the ground. There has been no real investment in making this in to a modern sports stadium! I know there are plans being discussed about the place being revamped but these have been ongoing for a long time now. This morning, Saturday, May 11, I received a phone call at home after my return from the schools under-14 cup final at the sports complex at St Augustine’s/Forrester High Schools (where there is no shelter for spectators). This phone call involved me meeting with someone who wanted to see if I could help in any way to highlight the attitude of councollors and others who appear to be determined to turn Saughton Enclosure in to a no-go area for football. The place, frankly, is dangerous to use. However, I will not attend any meeting, however, without the express permission of the Gowans family, who are heavily involved in the plans to revamp this awful place and create, instead, a top-class synthetic pitch, covered seating area, toilets and other civilised facilities. In return for what could be a huge financial commitment by this wonderful family, the stadium would be renamed the Craig Gowans Stadium, who died in the most dreadful circumstances almost nine years ago while on the training ground of Falkirk FC. I do however, want to do something to highlight the current state of this stadium and other council owned venues throughout Edinburgh and in particular, bring to everyone’s notice, the lack of civilised modern facilities for our young people to use as well as spectators.

In this modern age where corruption among politicians and other elitists is rife, see if we can name and shame those who appear to me to want to insult our young people by allowing Saughton Enclosure and other venues to be used for finals and special events.

This year’s Craig Gowans Memorial Day will again be held, next month, in Saughton Enclosure and all funds raised on that very special day will go towards providing facilities at the Sick Kids in Edinburgh. Some of the very disabled kids helped by the Craig Gowans Memorial Fund will be at the ground again, to see legends from Rangers and Celtic play each other in this year’s challenge match. I repeat, there is no shelter anywhere in this antiquated sports venue. None at all, neither are there any toilets anywhere within the ground. No place, either, for tea or other refreshments.

WOULD YOU HELP ME TO DRAW ATTENTION TO THE STATE OF THIS SPORTS VENUE AT SAUGHTON AND OTHER PLACES IN EDINBURGH?

If you agree with me, send me by email a message and I will forward each message, including this one of my own, to every councillor in Edinburgh City Council and every MSP in the Scottish Parliament. Also, every Scottish MP at Westminster and MEP elected to represent us.

I ask for your support and you can help by sending this messge on to others please.

I will email politicians every day of every week to uuntil something is done to improve sports facilities in Edinburgh. During the conversion on the phone, North Lanarkshire Council were mentioned and In the view of the person who spoke to me - THE NORTH KOREA COUNCIL! And the SNP wants us all to vote for independence! We cannot provide our young people with good, modern, civilised sports facilities.

The league have intimated that they are NOT willing to reschedule the game and that we should pull out if we feel we are unable to field a team.

Whilst I appreciate the Scottish weather brings a backlog of fixtures which need to be played. What kind of message does this send out to the boys regarding their education when officials take a stance such as this.]]>

In the past, I think Barcelona were dependent on wearing teams down with their hundreds of going nowhere passing strategy. However, when they came up against a team who would not buckle (physically and as a consequence of this fitness, mentally) they had no plan B.

I'm a big fan of watching Spanish football but Bayern were magnificent and they, along with Madrid appear to have got the measure of them. Will be interesting to see how Guardiola will approach his job at Bayern after his way was found so wanting by the team he will manage.]]>

Airdrie manager Jimmy Boyle insists that young star Jordan Allan is just one of many prospects at the Lanarkshire side.

The 14-year-old became the youngest ever player in Scottish league football when he made his debut at New Broomfield on Saturday.

Boyle says that while this season has not gone to plan, the Diamonds have a bright future.

“We’re really positive. The youth set-up has gone well with people like Jordan coming through and others like Liam Coogans and Chris O’Neill. When you see things like that happen and these boys getting into the first team squad and playing, the future is bright for the club.”

Both Boyle and Allan said they had no idea that the youngster could break the record, previously held by Ronnie Simpson.

Boyle said : “The thought never crossed my mind that it was going to be a record. All we thought about was that he’s had a good season and deserved something from it. We believe that he’s got ability that he can score goals at a higher level. We know he’s only 14 but we believe in his ability.”

Allan, who recently had a trial at English Premier League side Fulham, said that he has been welcomed into the senior squad with open arms.
“The players were great. They were giving me loads of advice and talking to me throughout the game and in the changing rooms afterwards.”

While Tony Watt and Gary Mackay-Steven have earned SPL deals after playing for the relegated First Division side, manager Boyle insists that his young star’s eyes are set firmly on improving next season in an Airdrie shirt.

“What’s most important right now is that he continues enjoying his football. That’s the biggest thing. He’s working hard and he’s scoring goals and he’s been rewarded for that. We’re down a division next year, so he may get more shots, but that will be up to Jordan and myself. I know that the future is good at this club and hopefully Jordan will be a big part of that.”

Dear Ian

The reason I contact you is that you probably wrote a few article on my son when we used to live in Edinburgh 1998-2000.

We are from ICeland (I do not know if you remeber us) you took a interview wiht us when we left scotland to go home to Iceland?

My son Alfreð Finnbogason you wrote alot about on this time. He was in Blachall school and also was playing for Hudison vale.

Just to let you know that you were right about what you said to me one day because I was wondering why you were so interrested in him. You said "he is a natural born talent" I think you were right.

He is now playing for Heerenveen in Holland and is doing very well, he has scored 24 goals for this season and in second place in Holland for the most goals this season, he has scored 50% of all their goals. He started in Iceland and was icelandic champion wiht Breiðablik, then he was bought to Lokeren Belgium and was not used as a striker (as he is). He also went to Sweden (on a loan) and played for Helsingborg. He scored alot

now you can see him if you google his name, some of his goals.

Iam very proud of him and often think of your words, you saw something in him I did not see.

Thank you and hope you are doing well.
