| Riverside's first festival is huge success | |
Last weekend saw Dumbarton Riverside run their first ever football festival.65 teams and 560 kids aged from 5 to 12 attended the 2 day Pride in Our Town Tournament. Teams from Oban in the west to Gartcairn in the east descended on Dumbarton to play Development 4s, Soccer Sevens and 11-a-sides.
On Saturday the winner of tne Ben View Resource Cup at 13s age group was a strong Ardencaple team with Robert Holland's kids finished top of the league winning all their games while conceding no goals. (pictured, right).
Running concurrently were the 2000s and 2001s Soccer Sevens festivals with 8 and 10 teams with many of the teams playing a fast passing game and making the most of the excellent 3G astro surface.
Later on Saturday afternoon 8 2002s teams played 4 round robin games and following the presentation by Alan McDevitt from Dumbarton FC the weather changed from drizzle to heavier rain.
Sunday was for the Development 4s and the conditions were superb for the day with sunshine throughout the day. The 2003s were the first age group to take to the stage with 12 squads from 6 clubs playing 8 games. Sharon McLeish (Organiser for Dumbarton's Pride in our Town event) came along to present the medals to the 80 kids. (pictured left, showing Sharon and one of the Dumbarton Riverside squads).
Next up was the 2004s with 4 clubs supplying the 10 Development 4s squads playing the Fun Fours format and finally the 2005s and 2006s took to the park for their hour of glory cheers on by some very proud parents.
Ann Harrison of Dumbartion United 2004 said: "There has been nothing other than positive feedback from the parents and coaches who turned out to make the day a great success. Needless to say, all the boys thoroughly enjoyed their afternoon of football which was a credit to the theme of Fun Fours for this age group." |
