Murieston Girls U17s Vs Celtic Girls U17sCeltic Under 17 girls won the Scottish Cup at Toryglen, beating Murieston United 2-1.

Two fantastic goals from Leigh Nicol and Cara Wilkie either side of half time ensured that Celtic won the coveted trophy, as Murieston United’s Kirsten Frew grabbed an equaliser just after the start of the second half.

Alyshia Walker made her second appearance in a Scottish Cup final in the last six months, having captained the Fauldhose Foxes Under 13s boys team to victory in May.

Both teams started strongly and, after two minutes, Wilkie’s shot from the edge of the area was saved by Murieston United goalkeeper Jenna Fife.
Five minutes later, Murieston nearly opened the scoring. Danielle Falconer’s deep free kick found Sarah Curtis inside the area, but her shot went narrowly over the bar.

Shelby Kearney ‘s long range shot was saved by Fife after nine minutes, but Celtic got the breakthrough a minute later.
Nicol picked the ball up 35 yards from goal and launched the ball perfectly into the top left corner, to score a goal worthy of gracing any cup final at any level.

Murieston responded to the goal well. In the 24th minute, Fiona Boslem’s shot from 20 yards caused Celtic goalkeeper Chloe Logan a few problems, but she was able to gather the ball.

Boslem had another effort saved a minute later. She retrieved the ball from a Lauren Evans pass but her shot from the edge of the penalty area was not good enough to beat Logan.

After half an hour, Celtic won a free kick 20 yards from goal. Nicol stepped up to take it, but her chipped shot went over the top left corner.

Celtic held on to the lead until half time, but Murieston hit back moments after the start of the second half. Falconer’s corner was headed into the top left corner by Frew to level the match.

The game was not level for long as Celtic grabbed the winner two minutes later, with another spectacular effort. Wilkie launched the ball into the top right corner from 30 yards.

Celtic kept attacking and were able to nullify the Murieston threat until the final whistle. Chloe Arthur was put through on goal by a chipped through ball, but Fife rushed out to clear the ball.

Wilkie had another long range effort saved with four minutes remaining. In the last minute, Walker had a good chance to score but goalkeeper Fife denied her with a low save.

Celtic held onto the victory and were delighted to be crowned Scottish Cup champions.
