The Norway Cup is proving to be a dream trip for Lewis United, not only has their goalkeeper ended up playing the majority of the competition for Liverpool, both of the teams the North Region club have sent over have won every single game so far in the competition, with only one game left in the tournament.
Lewis United Youth were the first of the two teams to play last Sunday, facing Elnesvagen 2 and Gruner. Both games were simple enough for the Scottish club, beating Elnesvagen 4-1, and then thrashing Gruner 9-0. Two days later, a more difficult day faced the team, with a closer 5-2 victory against Flint 3, followed by the tightest game of their tournament against Ovre Salangen IL Reds ending in a 1-0 victory. With four out of four, it would have been an impressive feat to continue unbeaten, but that is exactly what the team did, wrapping up their visit to Norway by beating Hasle-Loren and Stange Red 2-0 and 4-1 respectively.
The other team sent over by Lewis United played their first two games a day after, beating both Frogner IL and Nordre Land 5-0. They continued their form throughout the week, beating Haga IF 5-0 before again facing a very tight game against Oppsal Bla, emerging victorious with a 1-0 win. With one game left after beating Fjelhamar 3-0 this morning, there is a very real possibility that Lewis United’s teams will leave Oslo with a 100% record.
With the brother of one of the players, Evan Duthie, getting the chance to DJ on the main music stage, and a goalkeeper playing for Liverpool after the strangest of situations, an already successful tournament may well become the perfect tournament!
Good luck to the North Region team with their last game against Frigg Marienlyst kicking off later today.
