Ayrshire leagues round up - 31st October & 1st November

It was another hectic weekend in the calendar with Ayrshire sides in action up and down the country national cup competitions and on domestic league duty.

Reigning holders in the SYFA Age 15 group Crosshouse Boys Club made the long trip to Banchory and are through to the next round with after a solid 2-0 victory. Hurlford BC and Winlinton Wolves also made it through with home wins over AM Soccer Club and Cantera FC respectively. Bonnyton Thistle went out 5-0 at Syngenta Juveniles, while KSC Rovers lost out at home with the last kick of the ball, as Gala Fairydean advanced by three goals to two.

In the CAYFA Age 15 Division One, Tass Thistle United meanwhile had an impressive 2-1 victory at Prestwick Community FC, to move up the table, with Auchinleck Talbot also enjoying a superb 4-2 home win over third placed Glenburn MW.

In CAYFA Age 15 Division Two, there were five home wins with joint leaders Cumnock Juniors and West Kilbride continuing their 100% records. Cumnock were 5-2 victors over Largs Spartans, whilst West Kilbride had an emphatic win over Crosshouse BC. Galston were also heavy winners over Hurlford Utd to move up to fifth, whilst Irvine Victoria defeated Caledonian Colts 2-0. And the league thriller of the weekend saw fourth placed Carrick Colts edge third placed Bellfield Royals in a nine goal classic.

Up in the CAYFA Age 17 league, Girdle Toll took advantage of Valspar’s cup weekend to move top with a great win over Argyle Villa. Valspar meanwhile booked their ticket in the next round of the SYFA Cup with a thumping 5-0 win at home to Montrose. Bonnyton Thistle had a good 5-2 victory at Murieston to move through, but there was home disappointment for KSC Phoenix as they lost 3-1 to Mill Utd FC, and for Irvine Meadow, defeated 3-0 by Barrhead United. Meanwhile KSC Royals just lost out on the road 4-3 at Larkhall United.

The tight league race continues in the Age 14 Division, with just nine points separating the top eight teams. AC Irvine extended their lead over free weekend KSC Barca with an 8-3 victory at Cumnock Juniors. Hot on their tails are Largs Colts who recorded their emphatic away win, 9-2 at Crosshouse BC. Coylton slipped down to fifth after their 1-0 loss at Kilmarnock Portland, as Ayr Boswell Colts leapfrogged them with the same score line after their home defeat of Caledonian United. Galston are just behind in sixth after their win over Glenburn, and there were morale boosting victories for Prestwick CFC over Stewarton Annick, and for Tass Thistle who enjoyed a 3-1 derby win at home to KSC Kilwinning Thistle.

In the West of Scotland YFA it was a busy league and cup weekend in the Age 16 section. In the SYFA Youth Cup, Dean Thistle lost out valiantly at home, 6-3 to Motherwell. Reigning Age 15 Champions Crosshouse BC meanwhile had a hard fought 3-2 win at Giffnock SC, and there were also good wins on the road for Ayr Boswell, who defeated Dumbarton Riverside 4-1, and Dreghorn with an impressive 3-1 win at Balljafray FC. Meanwhile Troon Thistle’s good cup run is over after their 5-2 defeat at Fauldhouse Utd.

In the Age 16 Division Two, it was back to league business with Nithsdale Wanderers closing the gap on leaders Dean Thistle after a 1-0 win at Carrick Colts. Bonnyton Thistle slipped up with a 3-2 defeat at Stewarton Annick, whilst Largs Colts are up to sixth place with 2-0 home win over Glenafton. Both Garnock sides won on the road, with KCFC enjoying their first victory of the season, 4-3 at Prestwick CFC, and KSC Garnock winning at bottom of the table Ayr Craigie to stay in fourth spot.

Three West of Scotland YFA Age 13 teams advanced on the road in the SYFA Youth Cup, with Cunninghame grabbing the most dramatic win, 4-3 at Bridgend BC. Knockroon Thistle also had an impressive 3-2 win at Pollok United SC, and KSC Barca are safely through after winning 4-1 at Rossvale. Tass Thistle Titans lost out at Hamilton Accies though, as did Dalrymple Thistle after extra time, 2-1 at Milton BC.

It was a quiet weekend in the Age 19 section, with Bellfield Youth winning the only match, 3-2 at home to Glenburn to cut leaders Kilwinning Rangers’ lead to four points.
