The start of a new football season and the start of a new chapter for both Glentanar & Donside Juvenile who both had to make the transition of switching from Sunday to Saturday football.

An exciting game was in prospect and it was 2 sides who both had respectable campaigns. Glentanar finished in 3rd and just missed out on promotion by 2 points to Formartine United in the B league whilst Donside finished level 8th with Deveronvale and were defeated by Vale in the resulting play off.

The game started at a frantic pace for both teams with Donside making their attentions known early on in this fixture. Glentanar then had an attack and their 1st shot on target of the game resulted in a goal after a great ball got spread wide which found Liam Smith who found the roof of the net to give Glens the perfect start.

Donside then attacked straight from the kick off and had the ball in the net through Cameron Chyla however the corresponding attack was deemed offside which seemed rather controversial.

Four minutes later and the Alford outfit were level. A great through ball found Chyla who made no mistake who delivered a composed finish past Jordan Dutch.

The Alford outfit took the lead after 27 minutes. A great ball from Arran Inkster found Ruairidh Arief who then found Jamie Coutts who thrashed the ball home. It was a very entertaining 1st half and although the pitch at Aulton wasn’t great for either side, both sides put on a great show with Donside having lots of chances to put the game to bed.

  • Glentanar

There was one goal between the sides as the 2nd half begun.

Donside went 3-1 up after 47 minutes. A great delivery was sent in & Arran Inkster was hot on the spot to guide the ball home. Donside showed a lot of intent and pressure onto Glentanar when they attacked and Juvenile were in the driving seat.

Tom Burns then completed the scoring after a great ball from Chyla and Burns slotted the ball home. It was another great move and the finish to match as well. 4-1 and you would think it was game over however Glentanar knew they had to react back and they put pressure on the Donside backline.

A corner kick for Glentanar found Lewis Simpson which smacked off the post in what was a golden chance for the Aberdeen outfit. Ross Falconer then had a sweet effort on goal blocked by Craig Brander.

Both sides were continuing to have chances in the advanced stages of the game with Glentanar trying very hard to create a tense last few minutes. A free kick was picked up by Donside goalkeeper Ben Middleton. They also had a great shout for a penalty which was turned down by the referee.

Donside won 4-1 and they will play A league football for the 2nd season in a row. It’s early days however based on this respective showing, they will be a team to watch out for this season. Juvenile even though they finished level 8th picked up some respectable results last season.

Glentanar will be disappointed with the defeat however can take a lot of positives from the game & they will be fancying themselves to be playing A league football come next season.
