A place in the 3rd round of the Scottish Cup was at stake at Davidson Park, Inverurie when Colony Park hosted Lewis United Youth. There was a host different weathers during the game, the majority being rain & wind.

Lewis reached the final of the Scottish Cup last season before being curtailed by a heavy defeat to Tynecastle. The Aberdeen outfit have lost a number of key players during the summer, in particular striker Robert Ward who signed for Dundee United. Colony won promotion from the B league last season and have made a good start to the season & impressed in this encounter.

Colony made a good start to the game and opened the scoring after 6 minutes. A loose pass was capitalised on by Daniel Middler at the halfway mark who then went on a great run and slotted the ball home to give the Inverurie outfit the perfect start. Colony were really positive in their play whenever they went forward.

Lewis had a slow start to the game however got into the game as it progressed. Cameron Heslop tried to pull United level in the 14th minute however his effort gone over the bar after the Colony defence put pressure on the Lewis midfielder.

The visitors pulled level on the half hour mark through Ben Marr whose effort had come off Fraser Scott however had enough power in the shot to find its way into the back of the net.

Lewis started the 2nd half with a good tempo & Joe Wilson pulled the trigger from the edge of the box which was denied by Fraser Scott. The pressure from Lewis was soon going to pay off.

United took the lead in the 67th minute. Ross Young who had a great game up front for Lewis latched onto a through ball & then kept a composed head to knock the ball in past Scott. Colony were giving Lewis a good game however when United find their rhythm they are very difficult to play against.

Lewis made it 3-1 in the 86th minute. An initial effort from Joe Wilson was only parried by Scott & Ross Young was there on the spot to knock the ball home. United couldn’t just relax in the latter stages of the game though.

Colony reduced the deficit just before the final whistle thanks to Josh Duncan however it wasn’t enough. It was a typical cup tie & an action packed 90 minutes. Lewis might have lost a few big players in the summer however they are still a good team and this was on show.

Colony were always a side looking for promotion every season since Under 13s. They have finally achieved that & aren’t in the A league just to make up the numbers. As Lewis witnessed, a trip to Colony won’t be easy for any team this season.
