Balloan Athletic kicked off their Inverness Youth League cup season versus Duncan Forbes in their first outing since the end of last season. Rustiness was certainly not the case as Balloan stamped their presence on the group.
Balloan were quick out the traps with long balls over the top to Gavin Urquhart and Kieran McBride causing the Duncan Forbes defence all sorts of problems.
But it wasn't long until Balloan opened their account for the season, a lovely chipped ball from the back found McBride as he closed in on goal and slotted the ball under the opposing goalkeeper into the bottom corner to open his account for Balloan.
And it wasn't long until McBride had his and Athletic's second of the evening. This time a goal mouth scramble as Urquahart's shot went goal bound but not before McBride could provide the final touch to put Balloan two up.
Balloan continued with the long ball tactic and Urquhart grabbed himself a quickfire double of almost carbon copy goals, with balls over the top from midfield and Urquhart cooly finishing on both occasions.
Duncan Forbes had chances of their own but never really tested Daniel Maciver in the Balloan net. The away side defended excellently second half to try and keep the score down but Ryan Strachan netted goal number five for Balloan midway through the second half. Brodie Watson knocked the ball to Strachan who hit a curling effort from the corner of the box and it looped over the stranded keeper into the far corner.
Balloan pressed and pressed but there was to be no more goals in this tie as Balloan start where they left off last season. Duncan Forbes will be aiming to bounce back next week against Raigmore United as Balloan face up to old rivals Thistle Colts.
