Turriff United Under 13s beat Blackburn 8-1 at home to seal the C League Section 2 and gain promotion to the B league for season 2018-2019.

Turriff United, like Northstar Orange who won the C League section 1 recently, have shown they are capable of playing in the B league, however they were in the same Regional Trophy group as Middlefield Wasps who are doing well in the A league and Fraserburgh Link-Up who are mid-table in the B league with Kintore United in the group too.

Turriff let their feelings known early on in the game playing some impressive football in the first half, United took the lead on four minutes with a ball from Callum Robertson finding Finlay Davidson who knocked the ball home, Turriff set their stalls on the game very quickly with Robertson having a chance before the goal going just wide.

Oliver Morgan then got the second goal on 14 minutes with a superb overhead kick after Daniel Liebnitz had an initial shot on goal denied which was only parried by the Blackburn defence and Morgan had some time and space to execute an overhead kick which evaded everyone and went in.

Turriff United then had three goals in the space of four minutes with Morgan getting his second goal of the game after beating the offside trap and firing home a good finish, the whole team played well for Turriff but Morgan was a real stand-out for the hosts.

Callum Robertson then got himself on the scoresheet with a free kick with the hosts playing some great football in a five minute period. Morgan then got a six minute hat-trick courtesy of a tap-in. Callum Seivwright made it 6-0 just before the interval for Turriff United with a guided finish.

Blackburn were a more resurgent outfit in the second half, the hosts made a few changes however Blackburn came out a totally different side, the captain Angus Stewart was very lively for the visitors and a good move landed into the midfielder who had an effort on goal wide, a ball from Stewart then found Adam Morrison whose volley was tipped over the bar by the Turriff goalkeeper.

Blackburn got a consolation goal on 48 minutes which was a welcome reward for putting in a lot of effort during the game with a long range effort from Scott Robb finding the roof of the net, Blackburn showed during the early part of the first half the potential that the team has.

Turriff made it 7-1 with 11 minutes remaining after a ball from Robertson was knocked into his own net by a Blackburn defender which was unfortunate from their perspective having done well for periods of the second half, Turriff brought on some subs halfway through the 2nd half though and it gave the hosts some fresh impetus.

Morgan completed the scoring with his fourth and Turriff’s eighth of the game with a composed finish to complete a good afternoon for the hosts and reward Turriff with being C League Section 2 winners and promotion next year.

Turriff United won 16 out of 18 games losing only two which were both against Northstar CFC, congratulations go to all at Turriff United and based on this showing then they will be a good asset to the B League next season.
