An extra time winner from Ben Cresswell was enough for Newmachar Youth FC Under 14s to be crowned C League champions for season 2017-18 in what was a pulsating game for the neutral.

Goals were flying in during the opening exchanges of the game and it was Newmachar who drew first blood taking the lead after only just a minute, a good ball came into the danger zone which was met by Sam Milne-Emslie who fumbled the ball home from close range.

Ellon responded immediately though and an equaliser came just a minute later after a good ball came in from the left hand side from Ruairidh Smith and Rory Philip was on hand to guide the ball home into the near bottom corner to give Meadows an equaliser.

Cameron Paterson almost made it 2-1 to Ellon after being through on goal however a good save from Konrad Gorczynski denied the midfielder the chance to put Meadows in control, it was an exciting game and a great advert for kids football in the area.

Newmachar went 2-1 ahead after 20 minutes, a ball from Ben Cresswell found Ben Stuart who knocked the ball home from close range to put Youth back into the lead in a very lively play-off.

Ellon responded once again just four minutes later, a Robbie Neilson ball was met by Smith who got his second goal of the game with a header which landed into the back of the net. 24 minutes and four goals with many more chances for either team.

The 2nd half was just as good as the first half however neither side were clear cut in front of goal, Cresswell almost got himself on the scoresheet with a good effort however the effort was blocked off the line very well by Ellon Meadows defender Mark Thomson.

A ball from Rory Philip found Smith who had a great chance to get a hat-trick but Konrad Gorczynski produced a good save to deny the talented forward a hat-trick. Ellon had another chance courtesy of a Cameron Paterson free kick which went over the bar.

Smith was working very hard to cement the hat-trick and he nearly won the game in normal time however another good save from Gorczynski denied the striker. Ellon had the better chances however Newmachar Youth were making a good game of it and there was nothing to seperate the teams heading into extra time.

Newmachar were the side that would go onto get victory in extra time, a long kick was met by Declan Luttow who got past the Ellon defence before playing a good pass into Ben Cresswell who tucked the ball home. It was a great game of football and regardless of the result, it's two teams who will be good participants to the B League next season and give it the competition it deserves.
