Moray Girls beat Stonehaven girls 3-2 in a pulsating game of football at Thornhill. The match was a great advert for girls football with Stonehaven having to be commended for the long travel up to Elgin followed by putting in a great performance in which they were unlucky not to grab something from the game.

Stonehaven only had 12 players in the match day squad along with Moray however the South Aberdeenshire side took the lead after only two minutes. It was a very windy day and that dictated the opening goal with Katie Cochrane having a shot which bounced over Annalisa McCann and into the net. Unfortunate for McCann, however Stonehaven were in front and got their just rewards for the way they started the game.

Moray reacted fast and got an equaliser just three minutes later. A ball from the right hand side was met by Malzy McAfee and the talented striker slotted home a good finish past the advancing Cerys Gordon. McAfee was in again a short time later however a good save from Gordon denied the forward.

Stonehaven took the lead on 19 minutes after a long kick from Cerys Gordon found Emily Dalgetty and the Stonehaven striker got on the end of the long kick to guide home a fine finish into the roof of the net to put the visitors in the driving seat once again.

Moray got a penalty on 32 minutes in which Sienna Hastings stepped up and slotted into the bottom left hand corner to pull Moray back into the game. It was a great first period with a lot of attacking play from both teams.

Moray took the lead two minutes later which proved to be very decisive in the outcome of the game after a long ball wasn't dealt with and McAfee was through on goal and dispatched a good finish past Gordon. A little bit harsh on Stonehaven to be down at half time however Moray played some great football in the remaining exchanges of the first half.

The second half was quieter in terms of goals however both sides still had opportunities. Dalgetty had an effort wide for Stonehaven with Holly MacLellan also having a shot for Moray over the bar.

A Dalgetty corner for Stonehaven almost forced the Aberdeenshire side level as her corner found Dani Christie however her goal bound effort was blocked by the Moray backline.

The last five minutes of the game saw Moray trying to protect their lead whilst Stonehaven were trying everything to force an equaliser, the last real chance in the game fell to Moray with Sienna Hastings having a free kick for the hosts, she found the target however a good free kick was denied by a good save from Cerys Gordon.

Well done to both sides for delivering a cracking game of football even though the wind spoiled it a little bit. Stonehaven might be second bottom in the league table however their performance with six players unavailable dictates they are in a false position. Deveronvale look set to run away with the league however this result helps Moray in terms of trying to finish second this season.

The equaliser for Moray was well worked, a good ball was met by McAfee who slotted home a fine finish.
The goal which gave Stonehaven the lead thanks to Katie Cochrane, awkward bounce for the Moray keeper but they all count.
