Fraserburgh earned a place in the third round of the SYFA Youth Cup with a 5-4 win over Scottish League side Elgin City away from home, the game was played in the right spirit from both sides with both sides impressing with some good players on either team.

The Broch took the lead after 11 minutes. A good corner came in from the talented Logan Watt and his corner found centre half Arnadas Cepulis in space who guided a fine effort into the roof of the net with a half volley to give the visitors a perfect start.

Logan Watt went from provider to goalscorer four minutes later. Watt was playing in a midfield role and always looking dangerous whenever he had the ball, a Liam Morrison ball found the playmaker who fired home from close range to double the advantage for the Broch.

Liam Morrison was a constant threat for the Elgin defence and was one of the youngest players on the park, Morrison deservedly got himself on the scoresheet on 24 minutes. Adam Crichton's kick was blocked by Scott Murison and he crossed for Morrison to tap the ball into an empty net, not a special goal but they all count.

Elgin got into the game towards the tailend of the first half and deserved to get their name on the scoresheet. Elgin had some routine attacks in the first half and a free kick by Rhys Fraser-Prescott was met by Caiol Provan who guided home a glancing header beyond Ross Mowatt in the Broch goal, the game got a bit heated before half time.

Both sides continued to play good football in the second half, Fraserburgh had a chance to extend their advantage with Ross Grant playing a good ball into Andrew Hannar who got past the City backline however a good save from Crichton denied the striker.

It was 4-1 Fraserburgh on 60 minutes when Shaun Spence played in Liam Morrison who saw his effort denied before Scott Murison drilled home the rebound to restore the three goal advantage for the visitors.

Elgin pulled a goal back three minutes later with Owen Loveland heading the ball onto Fraser-Prescott whose 20 yard drive went into the bottom left hand corner beyond Mowatt.

Loveland was to create another assist for City to give the hosts a third goal, his ball went into the danger zone which was met by Cameron Angus who slotted home from close range.

Liam Morrison was then to cap off another good afternoon getting his second and Fraserburgh's fifth goal of the afternoon, the Broch played some good football and an audacious effort from the winger went into the roof of the net to cap off a good day's work for the 15 year old.

Elgin pulled a goal back with seconds remaining on the clock with Aaron Anderson's shot finding the net after a free kick came into the danger zone.

What an advert for youth football that was at Borough Briggs with Fraserburgh deservedly coming out on top over the piece, both teams showed purpose in their play and played attractive football with Fraserburgh showing a bit more desire, there was some exciting players on show who have hopefully impressed both sets of 1st team managers who were in attendance.
