A late equaliser was enough for Portlethen to use their get out of jail card and come away from Turriff with a point and maintain their unbeaten run to the season against an enthusiastic and spirited United side.

Based on league positions, Portlethen would have been clear favourites however Turriff aren't to be underestimated and are in a false position in the Under 17s Spree B League, currently sitting fifth bottom.

Both teams enjoyed a good spell of exchanges during the opening spell of the game and it was the hosts who made the breakthrough on nine minutes after a goal kick by Robert McRitchie found Ryan Catto who headed the ball into the pathway of Jamie Benzie who hammered a fine effort into the bottom left hand corner beyond Daniel Bentinck.

Turriff were enjoying a good spell of opportunities after the opener and a fine save by Bentinck prevented United from making it 2-0 after a pass by Ryan Acott found Catto whose fine long range strike was tipped over the crossbar by the talented Portlethen goalkeeper.

On 20 minutes, it was 2-0, Benzie slid the ball into the path of Calum Stephen who slid a fine effort into the bottom left hand corner to put Turriff into a more comfortable position, Portlethen weren't showing their potential however Turriff showed lots of desire and intent and took full advantage of a slow start by the visitors.

Portlethen had more attacks towards the Turriff goal as the half progressed and just before half time, they pulled a goal back, the hosts failed to clear their lines and a shot by Sonny Tinkler was parried by McRitchie however Liam McGregor reacted to the ball first to tap the ball into the net, tough to take for Turriff however Portlethen showed a bit more belief about themselves as the half wore on.

Portlethen had a good chance to take the lead at the start of the second half, a fantastic corner came in by Nathan Hay which found the head of Jamie Raffan however it was denied by McRitchie, there was nothing really clear cut in the second half with a couple of tasty challenges going in.

The visitors kept up the pressure on the Turriff goal line with McRitchie providing another good save denying Sonny Tinkler before Jamie Raffan as Portlethen tried very hard to get something out of this contest.

Into added time, and time was running out with Portlethen having a string of corners and on 94 minutes, Portlethen got an equaliser after a good corner came in by Logan King which was met by the captain Ryan Dempster who powerfully headed the ball into the net past a packed Turriff backline to complete the great escape having gone 2-0 down.

Turriff will be aggrieved not to get the win, especially with the referee playing more added time than there was scheduled however they put in a great shift, keep up that level of performances and wins will be around the corner. It wasn't Portlethen's best performance however their never say die attitude was definitely on show, Portlethen have produced some good results already this campaign and will continue to do so if they produce good displays.
