Buckie Thistle and Turriff United Under 13s girls served up a Saturday morning cracker at Victoria Park for the commencement of the girls league season. 18 goals were scored inside 60 minutes with six goals in the first period followed by 12 in the second half. Turriff United came out on top winning 12-6.

Both teams tried their very best in the game with lots of attacking play for both teams in front of a healthy looking crowd, after a subued opening period of the game. Turriff United were quick to get a goal after nine minutes, an Orla Taylor through ball found the talented Stacie Horne who found the roof of the net to open the scoring.

It was 2-0 soon after Horne stole the ball from the Buckie centre who then went on an attack before smashing the ball into the net, hard lines for Zoe Leslie who isn't actually a goalkeeper however she did have some good saves during the game which helped too.

On 13 minutes, Buckie pulled a goal back when a slack pass at the back by Turriff saw the ball come to Milly Findlay who did very well for the hosts and Findlay hut a powerful shot into the net which in turn led to a fantastic game of football and a great advert for the womens game.

Turriff made it 3-1 on 16 minutes with Lucy Gove and Horne linking up very well together for the duration of the game, Gove played a great ball into Horne who then guided home a fine effort with a composed finish. The same two players linked up to make it 4-1 with Gove this time getting on the scoresheet.

Buckie pulled a goal back just before half time after a Courtney Grant ball found Brooke Gauld who tapped the ball home past the stranded Turriff United goalkeeper, a great half of football and could have been more goals had it not been for some good saves from both goalkeepers, both sides were playing with real positivity which was refreshing.

Within a minute of the restart, it was 5-2 Turriff with Gove playing in Horne who delivered a lovely finish into the net to get the ball rolling on what was a goal fest in the second half.

Gove added to the tally on 34 minutes for her second of the game by tapping the ball into the net, it could easily have been damaged limitation at that point for that Buckie however they didn't panic and continued to play good football, they were playing at Turriff side who were really good going forward.

Turriff continued to attack and it was 7-2 a minute later, with Horne getting her fourth goal of the game with a fantastic effort which was on target and went into the net, tough to take for Buckie. Horne then scored again on 40 minutes.

Buckie started to get back into the game after that and soon enough, it was 8-3 when a long ball bobbled off a Turriff defender and the ball came into the feet of Courtney Grant who finished well with a good finish.

On 45 minutes, it was 9-3 with Gove getting into a really good position before firing home into the net, Gove and Horne were clearly stand-outs however it must be said that it was also a team effort throughout the game. Gove got her 4th goal of the game on 46 minutes to make it 10-3.

There was then a twist in the tale, on 47 minutes, Buckie scored again after a Findlay shot had been blocked before the ball had came to Grant who smashed the ball into the net.

Findlay then got her second of the game to make it 10-5 after she got into a really good position before breaking into the box and rounding the Turriff goalkeeper to put the ball into the net. Findlay then made it 10-6 when Gauld found the forward who volleyed home, this was definitely evidence that two attacking sides were facing off against each other.

Horne completed the scoring in the dying stages of the game with two good finishes, to say it was a fantastic game of football would be an understatement, both teams were giving their all in what was for some, their first competitive match, there won't be too much games this season that will match what was witnessed in Buckie on Saturday morning.

Milly Findlay & Courtney Grant- Milly and Courtney both played their part in a positive performance for Buckie and have good future prospects if they continue to play positive football, the attacking displays from them both were a joy to watch.
Stacie Horne and Lucy Gove, Stacie and Lucy both worked very hard up front for Turriff and both deservedly got goals, they also helped the younger team mates out when they needed to with showed they aren't just individuals.
