Inverurie Locos win the Under 20s Aberdeenshire League

Inverurie Loco Works Under 20s got their hands on the GPH Builders Merchants Aberdeenshire League recently and did it in some style with a 100% record from 9 games with some of the football on show was a joy to view as well.

Locos manager Scott Buchan spoke about his teams achievements when he said, "We finished the season with a 100% record and you can't get any better than that, it was beyond our expectations to be honest. I am obviously delighted to win nine games out of nine and the boys were such a joy to work with.

"We have to do the job on the pitch, we were branded as favourites at the start of the season, the under 20s is such a mixed bag as you don't know what you are going to come up against. We at Inverurie knew what we were going to work with as there was a squad there and weren't going to get a lot of first team players or any at all.

"You don't know what you are going to come up against and we came up against a lot of first team players at clubs and also others who aren't in the first team, winning isn't always important at under 20s, as a club, we set out five years ago with a project to work with a group of boys in a five year period with the hope of getting a couple into the first team at Locos.

"The fact that we have managed to do that with Thomas Reid and Andrew Watt impressing and also managed to win the league it's a huge bonus for everyone. The next lot of youngsters need to come through now, in the background, we have a good Under 17s and 19s team and also ties with various clubs.

"If your winning your developing and also if your losing your developing at the same time, I am learning all the time as a coach, am sure 1st team manager Neil Cooper is learning as well, we wants to give players a chance to play Highland League football, we played Fraserburgh early in the season who had a lot of 1st team boys who were under 20s alongside the 1st team and we got a win.

"We were 1-0 down against Banks O'Dee with 10 minutes to go and came back to win 2-1, the standard of football was fantastic."

Many congratulations to Inverurie Loco Works Under 20s on their title success.
