Cove BC U14s stormed to their first victory of the season this morning against Culter United.  United raced into an early two-goal lead but the hosts fought back and ran out convincing winners by some margin.

In a frantic opening period, Cove had the first chance. Tyler Ross broke down the right but dragged his shot wide.  Three minutes in Culter grabbed the lead.  Adam Murray made a good run down the left wing before but saw his shot hit the post.  However he was first to the rebound to tap the ball home.
The home side nearly levelled immediately when a Luca Giulanotti cross found Shaun McCard but the danger-man headed wide.  A minute later United doubled their lead.  Murray was the scorer again, reacting first to the loose ball after the keeper had parried his initial effort.
McCard rattled the Culter bar on five minutes but he wouldn’t be denied for much longer.  Just a minute later the big striker pulled a goal back with a low drive to the bottom corner from wide on the right.
Callum Young tested Ryan Gibson in the Cove goal with a 10th minute header, but the keeper was equal to the challenge.  Cove then went straight up to the other end where Cameron Wedderburn played in Giulanotti, but he didn’t catch his shot properly and McMullan made an easy save.
In the 17th minute Cove’s number 17, Tyler Ross, made it 2-2.  The striker beat the offside trap to go through one-on-one and coolly slot past the keeper to bring his side level.  Two minutes later Ross was sent through one-on-one again, this time the keeper got a hand to his shot but couldn’t quite keep it out as Cove completed the comeback.
With 23 minutes on the clock Ross was sent clear for a third time, this time McMullen got a stronger hand to his shot though and Aidan Beattie was able to clear off the line.  It wasn’t long before Cove added number four; a deft flick from Ross set up McCard who found the bottom corner with a powerful effort from the edge of the box.
Cove’s fifth came in the 27th minute through Shaun McCard, who completed his hat-trick in spectacular fashion with an outrageous lob from way out wide on the right.  Culter looked to respond straight away but goalkeeper Gibson was out quickly to beat Young to the ball.
Ross raced down the left wing on the half-hour mark, but a superb sliding challenge from Fraser Lowe stopped the striker getting a shot away.  Cameron McMullan then pulled off two really good saves in the space of a minute, firstly from McCard and then from Owen Gray.
Two quick goals from the home side in the last two minutes of the first half effectively put them out of sight.  McCard got number six after showing great strength to hold off the defender and then dink the ball over the on-rushing keeper.  Ross then completed his hat-trick as he poked the ball past the keeper and in off the post from close range.

Half Time: Cove BC 7-2 Culter United

After a 100mph first half, the second half was played at a slower pace, but Cove continued to dominate.  Rhys Barbour got his head onto a Connor Towler cross in the 38th minute, but McMullan pulled off a good stop.
At the other end Louie Ronald cut inside from the left but saw his shot saved by Gibson.  Cove’s eighth goal came in the 47th minute thanks to a composed finish from Ross, leaving the keeper with no chance.
Wedderburn had a good chance at the back post on 59 minutes but snatched at the shot and blasted high over the bar.  Just after the hour-mark though, the hosts made in 9-2 with a goal that wouldn’t have looked out of place at the Nou Camp.  Tyler Ross stepped up to take a free kick from a few yards outside the box and smashed it into the top corner brilliantly.
With six minutes to go Cove scored again.  Connor Towler skipped away from the challenge of a defender before curling a low effort into the far corner to become just the fourth different scorer of the day.
Towler then rounded up the scoring with his second in the 66th minute.  Craig Kinghorn fired a terrific ball across the face of goal and Towler was waiting at the back post to rifle it into the net emphatically.
All in all, Cove thoroughly deserved the win.  They were impressive throughout, playing some really good free-flowing football.  Culter United will feel hard-done-by, especially after going 2-0 up early on but the day belonged to Cove, who look certain to improve on their 5th place finish last season.

Tyler Ross tormented the Culter defence all match, scoring some superb goals in the process.  But for some excellent goalkeeping he could have got even more.
Cameron McMullan made some fantastic saves despite the goals he conceded.  He was a big presence in his box and commanded his defence well.
