U15 Aberdeeen SSFA League Play-Off
12 May 2014
Hazlehead were first to show in this Under 15 League Play Off at a sunny Rubislaw. In two minutes they were awarded a free kick twenty five yards out and plumb in the middle of the goal, but the shot was blocked. Cults scampered to the other end and three minutes later Oscar Slater was sent through but Kyle Buchan was alert and ran from his goal to keep the ball out.
It was end to end stuff at this point and Kalvin Mundie was thwarted by Ciaran Fox-Gibb, before Ryan Silvers saw his shot blocked for a corner which itself was cleared for another. A great ball from Duncan Cooper found Ross Watt but again Buchan did enough to keep the game goalless. Cults broke the deadlock in twelve minutes when Oscar Slater’s cross from the right was turned smartly into the net by Ross Paterson at the near post.
Hazlehead replied right away but their attempts were blocked and four minuutes later the lead was doubled. Jack Odlin moved in from the right to lash the ball past the despairing Kyle Buchan. Cults were well on top now and it could have been more as Oscar Slater broke clear before squaring to Ryan Silvers in the clear but his attempt was blocked at the expense of another corner.
Odlin forced another corner before the third goal duly arrived in twenty six minutes. Oscar Slater’s right wing cross found Connor Watt on his own at the back post and he tapped the ball in from close range. The corner kick were filled with danger and the next one from Ryan Silvers on the right went straight into the goal to make it four nil with thirty minutes gone.
Six minutes from the break Cults went nap. Lachlan Wood’s twenty five yard free kick hit the bar and Jack Odlin was first to react and steer the ball home. Hazlehead did have the last opportunity of the half when Josh Milne broke through but his try went just wide.
Half Time: Cults Academy U15 5 - 0 Hazlehead Academy U15
It seemed that Hazlehead might have the benefit of the conditions in the second half and Josh Milne led their fightback with a good shot which was blocked. Cults had their moments particularly when Max Foster brought down Oscar Slater just outside the box but the free was blocked and Hazlehead moved upfield again. Milne was able to get a touch to a through ball from substitute Aidan Reid but hooked the ball over the bar. He tried again midway through the half with a good run but he was crowded out at the expense of a corner which was headed past the post.
The leeway was reduced with thirteen minutes left. Gathering a through ball from Max Foster, Kalvin Mundie used his strength to move into the box before dispatching the ball low beyond Ciaran Fox-Gibb and into the corner of the net. Their joy only lasted three minutes as Jack Odlin picked the ball up on the right and sent in a high drive from just outside the box which sailed over Kyle Buchan’s head and into the net to complete his hat-trick in making the score 6-1.
That completed the scoring and the teams play out the final ten minutes with the substitutes getting a run. A deserved Play Off triumph for Cults, but commiserations to Hazlehead, a team which has contributed so much to the U15 League this season.
