Under 15's ADJFA "A" League
18 January 2015
Sunday’s league re-match was eagerly anticipated as both these teams have a very close game in September which ended in a 3-2 win for Culter at Banchory. Since that win Culter have gone on a run of seven wins in eight league games. Banchory have struggled for form and both teams wanted a win.
The game was one of the few to be played and the artificial pitch should make for a good passing game. Banchory won the toss and played with a stiff breeze in the first half.
Culter started quickly and were a goal up within two minutes when Ryan Corthals broke free of the Banchory defence and beat the keeper with a great run.
Culter had their tails up and were very pushing the Banchory defence hard when Jay Leiper broke the Banchory defence again and went through to make it 2-0.
Culter’s midfield was well on top and the Banchory forwards were get little ball. Culter wasted two one on one chances with the Banchory goalkeeper making a couple of great saves.
Rory Innes broke for a third Culter goal.
Banchory’s midfield started to get to grips with games and Sam Nicoll started to impose himself, he had two great surging runs and only some great defending from Culter prevented a goal.
Culter had a few more one on one chances which they wasted and were not able to make and headway with a series of dangerous free-kicks and corners.
Banchory were starting to make some headway down the left and hit post and brought two great saves from the Culter keeper.
Towards the end of the first half Ryan Corthals broke for a fourth Culter goal. The half ended 4-0 to Culter having played against a stiff breeze. Banchory looked rusty in the first half having not played a game since November and struggled with the power and pace of the Culter forwards, however they were starting to get to grips with the game and impose themselves.

The second half started and it was a very even contest with both teams trying to get on top.
The Banchory defence was coping well with the Culter forward line. Sam Nicoll was starting to dominate midfield. The first score followed a good Culter move which was driven home by Jay Leiper for a fifth Culter goal.
Banchory’s midfield was now on top and Banchory started to threaten the Culter goal and were rewarded with a great team goal, following some good midfield play a great corss from the right hand side was met by at the back post for Banchory’s first goal.
Culter’s defence was now starting to look shaky, Banchory piled pressure on the Culter defence and were rewarded with a second goal following a mix-up in the Culter defence, 5-2.
Banchory started to push hard but were not getting any clear-cut chances. A break on the right hand-side by Culter followed by a great cross was met by Aidan Wilkinson for a headed Culter goal.
Culter then started to apply pressure but some excellent defending a couple of great saves from the Banchory keeper kept Culter at bay.
The game was now very even and both teams had chances, Culter scored from a great corner by Ross Davidson which glanced off a few players into the net. Banchory attacked again and scored a third with a shot which was deflected past the Culter keeper by a Culter defender.
Culter scored again with a surging run by David Abad from midfield which he finished with a great drive from the edge of the penalty box.
The game ended 8-3 to Culter. An enjoyable game played in great spirit by both sides. Culter’s quick start and quick attacking was the difference between the two teams on the day. Both teams played good passing football and Banchory’s performance did not reflect their current league position. If they continue to play as they did they will trouble many teams during the remainder of the league.
