After the fixture was delayed a week as a result of weather conditions, Hutchison Vale F.C. played their cup tie against Broxburn Atheltic Colts which saw Hutchie win by six goals to nil.

The scoring opened up in the 5th minute. Hutchie striker Grant Rose decided to go on a solo run on the left hand side of goal, side stepping defenders, then finished his chance on the edge of the penalty box with the ball ending up in the bottom right hand corner of goal.

Four minutes later, Hutchie double their lead. Rose, involved again in the build up to the goal, played a short cross from the left hand side of the pitch to Kieran Jack in the centre of the penalty box. Jack beat his marker to the ball and he headed it into the bottom left hand corner of goal.

Hutchie increased their lead in the 15th minute. Ryan Moffat received the ball on the right hand side of the pitch, he then dribbled past the Broxburn defenders and with his shot on the left hand side of the penalty box, he placed the ball expertly into the side netting.

The first half scoring was rounded off as Rose doubled his tally. The outstanding Ryan Borthwick struck a vicious effort that smacked the face of the crossbar, but big striker Rose was on hand on the left side of the penalty area to slot the ball home.

Into the second half, Broxburn appeared to get into the game more with a good chance coming in the 53rd minute. A pass from Declan Wynne to Ethan Stevens in front of goal saw Stevens fire the ball towards goal but Hutchie keeper Max Gordon-Tennant dropped down to make the save and preserve his clean sheet.

Broxburn had another good chance in the 65th minute. Stevens and Wynne linked up again to produce a promising attack. Stevens played the ball to Wynne just outside the penalty box where he attempted to chip the ball over the Hutchie keeper but Gordon-Tennant was able to jump up and catch the ball at the top right hand corner of goal.

Broxburn continued their second half dominance with a chance that came in the 70th minute. An attack from Stevens saw the player dribble past defenders and enter the penalty box on the left hand side, he then passed to Wynne, who was just outside the penalty box on the right hand side. Wynne then cut inside and shot off his left foot but the Hutchie keeper was there to make the save yet again.

Despite Broxburn’s best efforts, Hutchie managed to get their fifth goal of the game in the 72nd minute. Despite a good save from Broxburn keeper Sean Redgrave, the ball dropped to Hutchie player, Sam Walker, who tapped the ball on the rebound from into the bottom right corner of the net.

Broxburn’s final chance of the game came in the 78th minute. Fighting until the end, Stevens managed to clip the ball over the charging Hutchie keeper towards goal, however, the ball was cleared by the defender on the line. No luck at all for the men from West Lothian.

Hutchie sealed the win and Rose got his hat-trick in the final minute of the game. A cross from the right by Sean McFarlane saw the ball strike the crossbar which then fell to Rose who tapped it into the net and completed his hat-trick.

Grant Rose - as his hat-trick helped his side win the game. His heavy involvement in the match from start to finish and his desire to get forward in every attack made him Hutchie’s best player on the pitch that afternoon.
Broxburn Atheltic Colts’ star player was Declan Wynne. He stepped up his game in the second half, producing and almost successfully finishing several chances. However, despite his best efforts he was unfortunate not to get on the score sheet that day.
Magic Moment
Hutchison Vale FC
Broxburn Atheltic Colts
Hutchison Vale’s magic moment was when Grant Rose completed his hat-trick. Rose had worked hard all game, making runs towards goal several times. The moment where Rose tapped in his third goal of the match was the magic moment because he had been building up to this moment all game and was well deserving of his hat-trick.
Broxburn Atheltic Colts’ magic moment was Stevens’s chance near the end of the game which almost got his side a compensation goal for his teams’ efforts. The Broxburn fans were cheering their side on, hoping that their hard work would come at the reward of a goal and it almost did thanks to Stevens’ brilliant effort over the Hutchie keeper which unfortunately was cleared on the line.
