South East Region referee donates year's fees to charity

Written by
Referees don't have it easy, that's for sure. Many say 'it's the hardest job the world, you wouldn't catch me doing it'. Despite that, one referee will be officiating games this season, without taking a penny of payment - all in the name of charity.
A story on the South East Region YFA website reads:
We've had a request from one of our referees, Billy Connor (pictured above, refereeing the 2011 Scottish Cup final between Banks O'Dee & Goldenhill BC), who is donating all his fees for refereeing this season to MacMillan Cancer. Billy's great friend and his bestman at his wedding Jimmy Reynolds sadly passed away and Billy has deceided to donate his fees on Jimmys behalf. Heres a copy of the short note Billy sent to us.
Hi Guys just wondering if you could put a link up on the SERYFA website for me raising funds for Macmillan cancer care. I have given my fees I get on a Saturday for refereeing since the start of January right up to the end of December for a full year of fees towards Macmillan Cancer on behalf of Jimmy Reynolds who was my best man at my wedding a few years ago and a very dear friend.
YFS applauds Billy for this fantastic gesture. With a few months to go, you can help Billy with his fundraising. Click here to make a donation through his JustGiving page.
