Craigroyston CYFC came out 6-3 winners over Edinburgh City Whites in a thoroughly entertaining Persevere Cup final

Craigroyston opened the game well creating many chances and getting shots that trouble the keeper on several occasions such as a decent free kick effort from Joe Monaghan that was well saved by Billy Milne for a corner that came to nothing. Monaghan got a chance to grab a second as Kyle Shepard Thomson played him in but his shot was sent just over the bar.

The deadlock was finally broken in the 17th minute as Humphrey Scott powered a low effort from the corner of the box into Monaghan who timed his run perfectly and slides the ball under the keeper to give Craigroyston the well deserved lead.

Edinburgh City try and retain possession following the goal but can't breakdown the solid Craigroyston defence to score an important equaliser. Sean Coyle gets himself involved for Craigroyston after he beats his man and fractionally sends his shot wide of the post, making a second look likely for the leaders.

In the 23rd minute a free kick on the half way line was won by Craigroyston and taken by Kyle Barnett Brown who launches the ball into the opposition goalies arms but he could not catch it and the ball fell perfectly for Emanuel Rotibel who converted from close range to double Craigroyston's advantage.

Edinburgh City immediately reply through Jamie Hook who dispossesses a Craigroyston defender and powers the ball in, out of nothing to half the deficit just one minute after conceding the second, which gave City a crucial lifeline.

However, a corner from Monaghan that managed to cross the line despite the catch from the goalkeeper regained Craigroyston's two goal lead. Craigroyston further punished the slack defending from Edinburgh City as Coyle picked the ball up from 20 yards, beat two players before burying the chance to score Craigroyston's fourth of the game just before half time.

Edinburgh City needed a big second half to get back into the game, and improvements were visibly clear for them early in the second half with Ciaran Bridges sliding in Sean Coia who comes close with an effort from just inside the box. A corner taken by Bridges in the 40th minute that found Coia at the back post who pokes home giving City a chance to get back into the game.

However, Craigroyston shoot these dreams down as they swiftly attack from the kick off as Coyle found himself in a lot of space before sending the keeper the wrong way with a close range finish into the bottom left corner resetting the three goal difference between the sides.

Following the fifth goal Craigroyston continue their dominance as they maintain possession and look to see out the game with their threee goal lead. Edward Mokota turns on the flair factor utilising great footwork to beat several opponents on many occasions but a meaningful shot never comes from these chances. Finally, Craigroyston get a sixth as Darren Brammer powers a 30 yard free kick over the head of the Edinburgh City goalkeeper to put the game to bed with only 10 minutes left to play.

Edinburgh City saw far more of the ball in the closing stages, when the result was already a for-gone conclusion. A third goal did come for City as Bridges played a one two with Michael Fairgrieve from a corner and placed a fantastic finish into the bottom far right corner to make the score 6-3.

The final whistle finally went and Craigroyston's great performance was rewarded by a trophy in the Persevere Cup.

Star Player
Edinburgh City Whites
Craigroyston CYFC
Edinburgh City's best player was Ciaran Bridges as he created many big chances and finishing them as well as he got an assist as well as the best goal in the game despite being on the losing side he was one of the main positives to take out of the game for City.
Craigroyston's best player was Joe Monaghan as his clever dribbling as well as his expertly timed run caused problems for the oppositions defence every time he came forward. He also got himself on the score sheet a couple times.
Magic Moment
Edinburgh City Whites
Craigroyston CYFC
Th magic moment for Edinburgh City was the amazing goal scored by Bridges that was perfectly curled into the bottom right corner from what seemed like miles out.
There were many great moments in the game for Craigroyston, but the best was when Monaghan curled in his cross straight from the corner to score an unlikely goal.
