The game started off at a fast pace with the home side applying the early pressure. Within the first minute, Hillwood had created 2 chances which worried the Bonnyton sidelines. The first 10 minutes were all Hillwood and it looked like it was going to be a difficult afternoon for the Bonnyton boys.

Hillwood passed the ball about well and created pressure Bonnyton were not used to so early on.  It was at least 10 minutes before the visitors had their first chance when a shot to the Hillwood keeper was spilled allowing Milligan to send a shot in, only to be cleared off the line by the defender. This gave Thistle bit of a lift and just after this they were to get an unexpected goal when McTernan crossed a low ball in from the left which Davidson coolly back heeled with his right foot in past the keeper.

To say this settled Bonnyton a bit was an understatement as 1 min later, a great cross by Anderson was floated in from the left straight to Patterson who struck a great right footed shot towards the top of the goal to give Thistle a 2 goal cushion.

The rest of the half went back and forward with good play by both teams. The trio of Watt, Armour and Patterson were causing the Hillwood defence all sorts of problems. With 5 mins remaining, a cross by McTernan met the feet of Watt who fired the shot in past the helpless keeper with the help of a slight deflection.

With the game nearly at half time, Watt played the ball over to Milligan who was 20 yards out allowing him to rifle an excellent shot straight past the keeper to go in at half time a comfortable four goals to the good.

Half Time: Hillwood Boys Club Under 19's 0 - 4 Bonnyton Thistle Under 19's

Bonnyton made 1 change at half time, off went the hard working Patterson to make way for McKie upfront.

Again, a similar start by Hillwood saw them create the first chance when their shot in from the right went just past the post. Bonnyton went back up the park where McTernan picked up the ball on the right, crossed it in to Milligan who struck a terrific ball in past the left hand side of the keeper.

A corner for the hosts a couple of minutes later forced a great save by Murchie in the Bonnyton goal. With the game looking as if it was wrapped up,  Davidson was then brought off for Strachan and 5 mins later, Bonnyton were to go 6 nil up when Milligan crossed the ball in from the right to be slotted home by Watt.

All credit to Hillwood as they did manage to get on the score sheet when their number 16 sent the ball past Murchie in the Thistle goal after a bit of a mix up in defence. Hillwood, lifted by this goal continued to press for the next 5 mins but goal number 7 came quickly after as a great Armour cross in from the left was sent to the feet of McKie who drove into the box to slot the ball past the unlucky Hillwood keeper.

Not long to wait till goal number 8 when Watt picked up the ball at the half way line and chipped it over the keeper from 25 yards out to earn him his well deserved hat trick and probably the best goal of the day.

10 mins from time, Milligan sent a great ball down the right hand side to Armour who drove straight into the box and slipped a delightful ball under the keeper.

With 5 mins remaining, last man Milligan was brought down outside the box as he headed through on goal.  A good decision by the referee meant the Hillwood player was only shown a yellow but could easily have been a red. It would have been a harsh decision considering the score.

Overall, Bonnyton dominated the game for probably 75 mins but all credit to Hillwood who didn't give up and played good football right to the end.

The final score really didn't reflect the Hillwood performance and effort as the whole team kept going right till the end. The effort and team spirit of the Bonnyton side showed on the day with their terrific overall display.

It was difficult to pick out a man of the match as the whole team did their bit but if I had to pick, it would have gone to Watt for his hat trick and his delightful last goal.
