Harmony Row YC Under 19s
Bonnyton Thistle Under 19s
Competition: SYFA Challenge Cup - Semi Final
Venue: Pollok Juniors
Date: 11/03/2012
A decent crowd turned out to support both teams for a game reported to be the “final” according to social networking sites. Harmony Row definitely seemed to think they were favourites to progress to the final and with Bonnyton being the current Scottish Cup holders, it had all the makings of a good semi final.
Both teams started well with not much between the two.  After about 15 minutes, Bonnyton seemed to be the team with the slight upper hand.  They created more chances and passed the ball about well.
Harmony Row tried to match Bonnyton’s passing game and for most of the first half, there wasn’t much between the 2 teams.  Just when you think half time will come with both teams going in with nothing to show for their efforts, Bonnyton finally managed to hit the back of the net in the 38th minute. A great run down the left from McTernan gave him the space to get a cross into Mitchell who coolly slotted the ball to Watt who rifled a great shot in past the Harmony Row keeper.
Harmony Row tried to press for an equaliser but were to be penalised 5 minutes later when their number 11 was judged to have stamped on Watt’s leg when they were challenging for the ball.  The referee had no choice but to show him a straight red card,  which was a shame as up until then, he had been having a good game.
Half Time: Harmony Row YC Under 19s 0-1 Bonnyton Thistle Under 19s
The second half started just as tight with both teams trying for the next goal.  Murchie in the Bonnyton goal had to pull off a few good saves to keep his team in the lead.   Bonnyton looked like they should have had a penalty shortly after the start when Armour was hacked down in the box but the referee waved play on.
The next goal was going to be vital for both teams but luckily for Bonnyton it fell to them when Watt again managed to find the net after some good passing by his team mates led to a great punch out by the Harmony keeper,  only to the feet of Watt who drilled the ball in after a goal mouth scramble.
At this point, it would be fair to say, a bit of the fight went out of Harmony Row but fair play to them, they did keep going, trying to find that goal to bring them back into the match.  Harmony Row lost their number 5 to injury and then the talented number 10 also left the field with a knock so the team had to regroup again after being down to 10 men and having to make 2 changes.
Bonnyton held on with Patterson making a good solo effort when he picked up the ball in the middle of the park and had a clear run through to goal with just the keeper to beat.  He kept his composure and timed his run perfect, lobbing the keeper from about 25 yards out to make it 0 -3.
Overall, Bonnyton deserved the victory on the day with a great all round team performance.  Good performances by Harmony Row’s numbers 4, 10 and 11 (until he was sent off) made it a good game to watch.  Apart from the red, the referee only made a few bookings (think it was a couple for each team).
Bonnyton now have to wait for the result of the other semi between Goldenhill and Wishaw Wycombe Wanderers to see who they will face on May 6th.
