Gio Vezza proved to be the set piece magician as Broomhill edged out Rangers SABC to claim the Trans World Soccer SYFA Cup. It was a close battle which saw a clash of two contrasting styles, which was decided by the Broomhill captain.
Right from the off it was clear the differing styles of the teams, with Broomhill being stubborn in their passing style and Rangers going for a more long ball, physical approach. In the early stages it was clear this worked against the passing side as Rangers consistently broke up play amd Broomhill struggled to get the ball out their half.
Eventually though Broomhill managed to start stringing passes together and it wasn’t long before they had their first chance with Jack Muir breaking free on the left hand side and crossing the ball across the face of goal. The cross was met by James LittleJohn, but he struck it wide.
Controversy followed as Rangers defender Lee Gemmell failed to head away an in swinging ball and was disposed by Chris Melvin, who was then brought down. No penalty was awarded though, to the surprise of Broomhill.
Rangers broke free moments later and after a wonderful through ball, Dillon Brown's left foot finish into the top right put his side one up.
Broomhill continued to play their passing style of football and it paid off. James Littlejohn was brought down by Josh Barnwell just outside the box and captain, Gio Vezza took the resulting free-kick. He smartly hit the ball low and soft under the wall, which duped keeper Robbie Walker and rolled into the bottom left corner to level the scoring, moments before the break.

Broomhill went on to dominate possession and chances in second half. It wasn’t long before Broomhill had another freekick about 30 yards out. Vezza again was resonsible, and after a dummy, he smashed the ball into the bottom right corner to give Broomhill the lead.
Rangers rarely managed to get out of their own half as Broomhill heaped on the pressure. Jack Muir picked up a cross on the left hand side, closed in on the Rangers goal, however, his effort was hit it over the bar.
Rangers began to open up Broomhill in the dying moments, but they struggled to create any clear cut chances.
Broomhill could have finished the game off, when on the counter attack, Donahoe played a one-two with Littlejohn on the left hand side. Littlejohn crossed it back in but Donahoe’s resulting header was collected by the keeper.
With moments to go, great play by Logan McCarthy went on a mazy run and picked out Muir. He shot was well hit and looked destined for the goal, but his effort was spectacularly saved by Walker.
In the last effort of the match, Rangers gained a late corner. However, it was taken short and was intercepted as the final whistle followed to the delight of all Broomhill supporters.

Dylan Brown's opening goal was special. A wonderful through ball and an excellent finish to open the scoring.
Hard to choose between the two goals by Vezza, but the second one just edges it. The winning goal and a spectacular finish from long range.
