Little Big Shot Scottish FA Youth Cup holders Celtic progressed to round four after an outstanding victory over Hamilton Acamdemical FC. The visitors took an early lead when Fiacre Kelleher headed in from a Regan Hendry corner. Then the current champions produced a devastating spell of play that crushed Hamilton within the space of ten minutes. Celtic looked like scoring with every move forward, and they almost did. Joe Thomson and Calvin Miller making it three between them.
Hamilton had the ball inside Celtic’s half for the best part of four minutes, until Hendry sent the ball into the Accies penalty area from the right. Alex Marshall came off his line, but missed the ball, and Celtic captain Kelleher headed in from close range.
Celtic’s second attack was built slowly from the back, with the ball being played around the pitch. Joe Thomson found Hendry out wide, who then fizzed the ball across Accies goal mouth. Aidan Nesbitt slid across the wet surface but couldn’t meet what would surely have been Celtic’s second.
They got that second goal minutes later though, when Jack Breslin passed inside for Luke Donnelly. He couldn’t get a shot on target so passed inside for Thomson to strike home from fifteen yards.
Then it was three only minutes later. Hendry played down the wing for Aidan McIlduff, who crossed into the penalty area and Joe Thomson headed in.
By this stage Hamilton looked like a team that had accepted defeat, and the way Celtic were playing, it was hard to blame them. Celtic went forward once again, Donnelly passing to Hendry who then unleashed from the edge of the penalty area. Marshall was sent scrambling across his goal and fortunately for him the shot fell wide of the post.
The wind and the rain were torrential, with both sides looking like drowned rats, but Celtic showed there quality by coping with the conditions as best as they could in the circumstances. Nesbitt had a strike fly over the cross bar and headed over from six yards just before half time.
